Have you ever moved cities based partially (or even fully) on whether or not there was a dance scene/community/clubs?

Applicable to type of salsa, en linea, casino, on1, on2, cumbia, etc.

Think I've re-adjusted now, both by following the clave and reacting to the conga in a different way, almost like a cue to indicate when to start the lifting my foot to step on the 1 and 5 in time.

Pretty consistent bass, though!

Listening to it now, though, I think I do hear the tumbao coming in right before the downbeat. I guess I've just developed stepping on the conga (during my quarentine solo practice time) as a bad habit, because I know that before I could step on the 1 and 5 by following the piano's guajeo, or...

I think I'm breaking on the 1 but then once the I hear the conga on 4& it seems so close to the 5 that at least I don't notice the difference. Then the same for 8& with its proximity to the 1. Maybe I need to train my ears a little better.

So I was doing my salsa homework the other day when I discovered, or perhaps rediscovered after having forgotten, that the conga double-double (cung-cung) is sounded on 8 (or 8 1/2) and 4 (or 4 1/2). Yet I (an On1 dancer) have been breaking forward on that conga, hearing it as 1, and back...

So it's one thing to learn how to keep time, find the 1 or 2, etc. But how about leading and initiating turns while also staying on time: what are some good exercises or strategies? Any learners or instructors here that have had difficulty with coordinating everything and keeping it all...
