    songs in 3-2 clave

I don’t know about the bongos in Merengue. Originally tambora and güira, there is also tumbadora patterns, no idea about the rest. And you have to play cinquillos with no rest! :) I really like Merengue percussion and its instruments. BTW, bachata percussion is lots of fun too! They have 3...

    songs in 3-2 clave

All Merengues I know do, at least from what I recall. Yes, many! Ritmo oriental, Maravillas de Florida, la 440, Aliamén, and of course Aragon. There is others but I don’t remember.

    songs in 3-2 clave

I read many Cuban charangas of the time end of 70ties/80ties have clave 3-2 all the way, supposedly influence from merengue which was very popular then. It’s usually fast sones with 3-2. I’ll look if I find some

    songs in 3-2 clave

I have to re-listen then. I used to play it with a salsa band many years ago and we stayed on 3-2 all the song, actually it was my first montuno part in 3-2 at the time. But it might be just the version of the band I played with

I know this is not exactly a salsa question but.. how to be liked by people beside the dance itself? (The Dance Zone)

I partly agree, on the other hand the meaning of a forum is to answer questions following one’s own judgement and I think all answers all well meant. I think the advice you give is good, though. I do sense in your particular post that you are an insecure person and blablabla… :) Just joking...

Bolero, Danzon, Bolero-Son, Danzon-Cha and all the confusion around it

As much as I know, they are. Mostly for dancing and older people, but following my information it’s still popular in some parts of Mexico - I couldn’t tell you which though. Just recall reading this in several different sources, unfortunately I can’t be more precise.

    10 most important Salsa albums

Back to the subject: As much as her voice bores me, “mi tierra” by Gloria Estefan should be mentioned at least. Productionwise I find it amazing and it was really important for about 10 years. (Not sure if there was only a CD - then of course it’s out)

    Timba evolved out of Songo

PS. Just realizing that I got my first answer in this forum by Kevin himself. I’m a lucky guy!!!

    Timba evolved out of Songo

I was new in the forum and had no idea. There is no line “son-songo-timba” nor is Songo a direct precursor. I see Songo more as a symptom than a pre-timba. (Zeitgeist was to integrate elements from rumba and conga in grooves, emancipation of bass and piano, then later contraclave, interaction...

Guararey de Pastora (aka Guararé or Pastorita) - songo v salsa (v son)

I love the last coros! And the ambiance and dancing! Btw Just remembered we were discussing once if Changüí is danced a tiempo or a contratiempo, which made me ask some Cuban dancer friends. The whole thing ended in a heated debate where professional dancers insisted it’s danced a tiempo and...

Guararey de Pastora (aka Guararé or Pastorita) - songo v salsa (v son)

I‘ll answer in little bits not to throw my mobile phone out of the window. @timberamayor has already explained a lot, by the way the most interesting Changüí threads are by her, too - I just can’t find them now. My information about this is due to Kevin Moore’s books by 80%, I want to leave...

    10 most important Salsa albums

The maracas pattern is the same as son if I recall right. In the bongo pattern you’re right, it’s different. But I feel bad being so off-thread in Richie’s thread, let’s leave this for another thread.

    10 most important Salsa albums

This made me laugh… Looking for existing threads about Songo I found my first thread I ever posted in this forum - about Songo! https://www.salsaforums.com/threads/timba-evolved-out-of-songo.24421/ I’ll look for some Changüí threads. Explaining what you ask me here in the forum exceeds my...

    10 most important Salsa albums

Of course you can make a nice version of any song, I was more referring to rhythmical issues in the groove and melody in the Van Van’s version. I do hear it clearly, but then again one always hears what he/she wants to hear, so you may be right. Absolutely. That was my point that I probably...
