    abs

Absolutely normal! You'll find yourself engaging your abs (tightening and relaxing them) as you're dancing. This may not apply to everyone but for me dancing + a regular gym routine = good to excellent abdominal definition and strength.

    An On1 Rant

Log on to SalserosCollective on Yahoo. Richie and the other hardcore salsaheads (many of them DJs and/or currently in bands like Spanish Harlem Orchestra) there can explain the payola scheme to you in pretty good detail.

What is the best part of a salsa congress

Never quite understood the hype about him. Have met him a few times through friends and he seems nice enough but I was never a fan of his DJing. Willy absolutely *ROCKED* at the DC Congress and the NYC Congress last year. I hope to hear him play again at the next big event/congress that I go to.

    Classic/Independent verus Commerial

I'd say you're on the right path there in terms of building up your familiarity and comfort level for dancing on2. When I started I was on a heavy diet of Cal Tjader, Eddie P, Tito Puente and Ray Barretto, for starters.

    An On1 Rant

From what I recall, the bands were playing 20 minute songs each night. The one exception, if my memory serves me correctly, was the opening band on Saturday night. They played 6-8 minute songs and then would segue neatly into their next song. Almost like playing medleys. I remember loving...

NY salsa congress '09 - cheap accommodation?

Agreed. Many DC salseros were shocked when they couldn't book hotel rooms for the 2007 congress a month or two before the event. The Hilton was fully booked by June of last year and many of the neighboring hotels were as well. The best thing to do is what Mac suggests: Reserve it now so...

Which Salsa Congresses Or Major Events Do You Plan To Attend in 2009?

Definitely doing Flava Invasion 4 in April. Hotel and VIP pass booked already. Just need to book airfare. -Maybe- doing the All Star Salsa Cruise for Memorial Day. It's tempting when you mention Barcelona, Marseilles and Ibiza.

Roll call for Playa del Carmen (Nov 7 - Nov10)

You would have to join DC Salsa Meetup (home city of the promoters for this event) to read the following threads about the event. http://salsa.meetup.com/162 http://salsa.meetup.com/162/messages/boards/thread/5762298 http://salsa.meetup.com/162/messages/boards/thread/5766093...

Roll call for Playa del Carmen (Nov 7 - Nov10)

No boating on this trip (well, unless I decide to do an excursion off site) but I'll keep an eye out for them at the performances. As for the drinking, count on it. :D

Anyone here flying down to Playa del Carmen for the StuckOnSalsa iMambo.tv and Born to Salsa All Inclusive All Star Weekend? I'm heading down Friday morning and returning on Tuesday. It'd be nice to meetup and see members from SalsaForums. :D http://www.allstarsalsaweekend.com/...

    Exercising before salsa...

I don't do that much cardio (need to pick up running again on a regular basis) but do hit the weights for an upper body workout before going dancing. That's never taken a toll on me when the dancing starts. Oh and I agree with SalsaTO's comments about the heavy duty workouts and congrats on...
