Song list and other details:
I already have. What one plays on the radio isn't necessarily music that one would want to dance to, and often is more geared for listening. I also want to get maybe a x'mas cumbia, x'mas merengue...x'mas bachata...x'mas cha cha cha...I am not necessarily limiting myself to salsa which is why I gave it the generic title of "x'mas music".

Really!?! Willie Colon and Hector Lavoe's I and II "asalto navideno" CDs 1972/1973 come immediately to mind when I think of x'mas and latin music.

Well I don't have any CDs by Willy Colon or Hector Lavoe and I've never heard xmas songs played at any of the clubs. But I can check out Abayarde's show and see what there is.

I DO have José Felicidad, Felíz Navidad. Does that count :)

I personally prefer local folkloric music related with Xmas; Music that reminds my childhood... Ramito, Chuito, El Indio De Bayamón, Tuna De Cayey, Vicente Carattini y Los Cantores de San Juan, Los Alegres De Hato Tejas and Daniel Santos to name a few.

remember when "asalto navideño" LP's were originally released. they were a bomb in that time. everybody was playing them at parties, radios stations scheduled them day and night. until "asalto" no one dared to mix Salsa with folk music. it was taboo because folk was considered "old people" and "jibaro" music. nobody though it will be successful, even Fania own executives including Johnny Pacheco. Once Willie made the first move and succeeded, everybody joined the wave, including Cheo Feliciano, Ricardo Ray & Bobby Cruz, Impacto CREA, Ismael Rivera, Santos Colón, Borinquen All Stars and Sonora Ponceña.

puerto rican power - aguinaldo pa`todo el año
That was my favorite Christmas Salsa for awhile.

My new favorite is "Esta Navidad" by Orquesta Tabaco y Ron. That song totally jams as much as any other "regular" Salsa song! :rocker: It's on an album called "Ponle Salsa a Tu Navidad" which is filled with danceable holiday Salsa. I'll be part of a performance using that song at my studio's holiday social this upcoming weekend. If we get some good video from it, then I'll post a link elsewhere on this website.

Another really good holiday Salsa is "Invitacion" by Moncho Rivera, on the album "Mi Regalo en Navidad."

There's an album called "Salsa Christmas" featuring the group Tropical Fantasia, and there are a few good Salsa versions of traditional Christmas songs on it.

I was responsible for putting together the music at my studio's holiday social in 2010 (and now 2011, too), so I researched a lot of danceable holiday Latin music to mix in with our regular Salsa. Some other songs I found are as follows:

BACHATA -- I like "Blanca Navidad" by Ander & Carlos Carrasco on the album "Navidad a Ritmo de Bachata." Another good song is a Bachata version of "Me Voy A Regalar" (originally a Salsa by Marc Anthony) by Rubby Perez on the album "Encuentro Navideño."

MERENGUE -- "Navidad con los Reyes" by Los Reyes del Caribe.

CHACHACHA -- A version of "Feliz Navidad" performed by Chino Espinoza is on the "Ponle Salsa" album that I mentioned above. A couple of decent instrumental Chachas ("Deck the Halls" and "Let It Snow") are on an album called "Navidad Cubana" by the group Cuba L.A.

I'm not aware of any Cumbias, but I'm sure there are plenty out there.

My favorite Latin Xmas albums are definitely:
+ El Gran Combo: Nuestra Música (Xmas album)
- La Fiesta de Pilito
- No hay cama pa' tanta gente
- Cosas del Campo etc...

+ El Gran Combo - En Navidad
- Alegría y Paz
- Ya viene la nochebuena
- Cantares
- El Santo Nombre etc....

They already have been playing that music on my local Latin station since last week.

But to get into the real Xmas spirit, I also listen to traditional English Xmas music. Just watched Michael Bublé's wonderful Xmas concert tonight.

I have nuestra musica. I am probably going to play desenfunda from that. I don't have the en navidad album and haven't found a reasonable price for that one yet to purchase.
