Who has stolen your ‘salsa heart’? :)

It is time to have a thread on this! We spoken about ‘salsa crushes’ and ‘salsa boyfriends or girlfriends’ in the threads before. [For those unfamiliar, this is strictly about dancing and nothing off the dance floor] If dancing were to be a five minute love story...

In every dance connection is equally important. I got my salsa heart stolen after a cha cha dance, where we were probably dancing at least more than three or four feet apart, such great was the connection!

I will start first. Saturday night, at the Paris salsa congress. I wasn’t simply feeling it. Neither was music inspiring to me. Luckily a local Parisian friend, who also doubles as a coffee/dinner date whem I am in Paris, made first appearance (since I got there), we danced some songs but mostly were sitting on the sidelines for an hour or two chatting. Around 4am we decided to go try get some dances. I was still feeling too blue to dance salsa. I was loitering around as music didnt speak to me. Then this awesome cha cha song comes up. There is this girl who is a fabulous dancer and we had some really good/great dances before. I dont remember if I asked her or she asked me, kind of we happened to look at each other at the same time and went for it. That one dance made my whole night and probably my whole festival :) With that dance, she stole my salsa heart!

Something similar happen to a buddy the next day. It was the last song. I had just started dancing and he was standing on the sidelines. Next to him walked someone with whom I had a really good dance sometime before. I indicated to him he should ask her for a dance. He still raves about that dance. When I ran into him several weeks later at a local social he was in denial that he wasn’t in Paris. Turns out besides an excellent dancer, she is a host/organizer of a very popular salsa festival, when she sent him invitation recently.

I could tell you her name, but if it's the same person, that would be weird.

So I'll just say that when I saw this person on Youtube, I immediately said "she is the female version of me". I chased her down around Europe and made her dance with me. Since then, we always dance together when we see each other. She even said that I'm one of her top 5 dancers, which made me so happy since I knew from the very first moment I saw her youtube video that we'd click.

All the stars in the universe will have to be aligned perfectly for that :) wait wait which one you talking about - Ms. Organizer or Ms. Cha?

Hardly know Ms. Cha but for a few dances we danced. I dont even know if she would count me among her top 20 :D

And there have been other stealers!

I am talking about Ms. Cha :)

While on the subject of heart stealers, does it count if they steal your heart over and over?

One thing I enjoy about these types of dances is that I am never satisfied with just one. I don't like the idea that I will have one amazing dance with a beautiful stranger, then never see them again. If I find that I enjoy dancing with them, I will do everything in my power to dance with them again. I have found that over time, dance connection improves and every dance is an opportunity to top the last one.

This is what I have with Kate G (my original heart stealer, but not the one I was referring to). The first time we danced, it was like a scene from a movie. Over the years, we've had many great dances, but each one is like a stepping stone and a good test to see whether we can improve our connection. There is no memory to ruin either since as we both continue dancing, we know that we have an opportunity to create even better dance memories.

I recently danced with a girl who, every time she thought she missed a lead signal, buried her head into her chest in embarassment. It was the weirdest AND cutest thing. She was more Cuban, so maybe that's why it didn't work, but she was smooth. Not a heart stealer though, so I don't know why I brought her up...

I highly doubt. I checked youtube and found only three or four videos of her. Rather obscure.

Yes! Why not :)

Tell me about it! But I have one dance rule per evening, unless I know the follower really well and know she would enjoy the second or third dance.
