When you want to be able to dance well in general clubs, where grinding tends to be the norm, which style of dance is most practical to learn?

Reggaeton as mentioned before, hip hop and R&B (modern Style).

Really depends on the music. Alternatively you can do what most club goers do and just drink till you don't care how you dance. Worked for me for years ;)

Actually if you have done no partner dancing before, and you want to be able to take a girl in your arms and impress her, and grind with style...I'd take some modern style Bachata and go to a bunch of "sexy bachata move" type of workshops if they were available. As long as you are capable of adjusting to a woman who has had no dance training, and therefore will not follow crazy style salsa moves: some of the close hold bachata moves could work, some of these classes teach bodyrolls or other little tricks for moving the follower. Could work...??
