Starting to Learn...

Hi Kaylie! welcome to the forums, have you read the threads here Oldies but Goodies

My advice,

Learn to maintain your own balance (dont rely on your lead for it)
Listen to salsa music as much as possible (and learn to identify the 8 beats)
Do as much social (out of lesson) dancing as possible
Most of all, enjoy each and every dance

My advice - listen to the music and don't try to keep to or identify any beats. So you are cooking...let the music play. You are concentrating on the road while driving in the car...just let the music play in the background.

That's what I do to get a feel for any new dance.

Note - listening to the music and working on identifying the beats is important, but it should be only one part of your learning experience.

I'm just starting to learn Salsa, any advice???? any at all would be great! thanks! :D

Hi Kaylie, welcome to SF!

Some of the best advice:

- Don't sit down, dance dance dance like nobody's watching!
- Find things you enjoy about the music, the dance, the people that will keep you coming back and wanting to learn more because you enjoy it.
- Find a good instructor who makes things simple.
- Think about dance as a relationship. Connect with your partner, the music and you. Good relationships require communication.
- Have fun!
