Puchi Colón - Lo Mejor de Mí, Para El

Hi all,

I recently purchased this CD on iTunes and I thought I'd review it 4 those of u who like salsa cristiana :)

General music quality: 4 STARS ****

This CD has a great salsa beat, a little influenced by some other style (not sure which exactly but it's different from most of my other stuff) but very good. His intros are a little heavy on the percussion but I like that. Actually he starts his songs off with a certain "kick" that has inspired my own percussion playing. The only thing that I would have liked would be to have it all in Spanish - most were in Spanish so it's no biggy, but if you've read my other posts you know how I feel about that. :)

Rhythm & pace: 4 STARS ****

This may actually be a good CD for you beginners out there! It's a little slower than most of the salsas I listen to, and as I said before it seems to be influenced by some other style. But for you dancers out there, it's slow enough to practice and consistent with the beat you expect in salsa, but fast enough to call it a salsa and not a chachachá or other style.

Message: 5 STARS ****

OK, if you're into Christian music this one is pretty important, but the rest of u salseros out there can just ignore this part if u like. :) The messages Puchi conveys in his songs are encouraging, Christ-centered (believe it or not lots of "Christian" musicians are in it for the $ so it's all about them lol) and very uplifting.

Song I liked most: Fui la razón

It was sooo hard to pick one! I absolutely loved "El Todo Poderoso", "Renuevame", "No te rindas," and I even liked "On my knees".

So what makes "Fui la razón" stand out from these? In this one Puchi shares a little of how he came to be a Christian. he realized, "fui la razón" - I was the reason Jesus did what he did on the cross. It was beautiful and had a nice beat to boot!

Song I liked least: All that I need

I'm sorry, but between the English thing and the fact that this CD has some of the artist's best songs (the CD title translates to "the best of me, for Him") this one dims by comparison. Those who listen to the music know El Todo Poderoso and of course Renuevame has been done, re-done and overdone (but in his case done well) :)
