London's Finest?

#3
After all the stuff written on the SF about the London scene, I found this a pleasant surprise, what do you think SFers?

I like their musicality! A lot of them seem off time to me though. A lot of them switch between on1 and on5 or on2 and on6, and they rush the slow, sometimes going power2 and sometimes 'ny style' in the same dance.

Not to say I wouldn't enjoy dancing with them, they seem to have fun which I like!

I saw Sam Shlanger in there! - awesome dancer who used to live in Sydney, and is now becoming hotly known in the London scene :)

Hmmm saw the whole video - very odd that they don't judge each couple individually by a small panel of judges - that's how the best social dancer events are run in Australia. With the above format it's more about popularity than actual dance skill, however having said that the standard was still very high.

It was not a serious competition - when Mario announced it, it was made clear that it was "for fun".

Sabs, the guy who came second is moving to NY... say hello if you see him :)

This was a Jack and Jill competition and mainly for fun as opposed to the London's finest dancer. There was a big mix of levels.

Super Mario actually took a lot of slack for the branding of this and made a big effort to say it was just for fun.

A lot of the top dancers (in my mind) in London did not participate. I actually didn't want to (I don't think social dancing should be judged) but they put my name in the hat anyway...

So in summary this really does not represent the scene here in London, but more Bar Salsa plus a few.

That's what I like about it being a mix of levels...I enjoyed it for what it was, I could see that Mario was having fun with it. The pleasant surprise was some were very good (IMHO) and I am happy to hear that there are even better dancers that didn't take part. I wish I could make a trip back home!!!

I couldnt watc
Sorry the final ranking was a little unclear and the video quality isn't great -- what's the name of the guy who is moving to NY so I can look him up on FB? Won't be able to recognize him just from this video. :p
I couldnt watch the video till the end so I dont know who was the second.

But Ivan from London is moving to NY. He is on my FB. A super friendly guy, dont miss him.
