Johnny Sedes - Carupano - Majesty in Motion - Palm Springs

Thanks, mamboforever!

I found a reference to a song of Johnny Sedes called 'Dame Felicidade'. Do u know that song?

I found that reference when searching for 'Dame Felicidade' of Pete Rodriguez (in the album 'Now').

I would like to know if it is the same song.

Thanks,

JS

I saw the name of Richie Ray on the compilation you mentioned...what is the connection between Richie Ray and Johnny Sedes? Is it Bobby Cruz on the vocals in Carrupano? When I heard the song I felt I knew the voice...

De other tracks on that compilation are danceable?

Thanks,

JS

I like 1-4-5-7-9 tracks.
Vocals by Chivirico Davila Y Leo Gonzalez in the tracks (1-4-10 ) , that is Sedes' songs.
Not sure if there is a connection between Sedes and Richie Ray ... I don't think so anyway .... this should be just a compilation of few songs by Richie Ray, Torcat and Sedes.

The connection is that these Three artists all had LP releases on the great Fonseca label. The CD compiles songs from these albums. Johnny Sedes released MAma Calunga; Venezuelan singer Perucho (who is mostly known for his work with Ray Perez) recorded an album in NY with an all star band with the members of Baretto's band and PAlmieri's band; and Richie Ray (and Bobby Cruz) recorded a number of albums most of which are available on Disco Hit CD.

It is interesting that someone noted that they thought Bobby Cruz was singing on this tune when it was really Chivirico. Chivirico was a major influence on Bobby and actually sung in Ricardo Ray's band before Bobby Cruz. I much prefer Chivirico myself. He is one of the most underated and most recorded soneros.

Nick,

Thanks a lot for details about these almost unknown musicians who were kinda meteors in the ocean of 60's/70's salsa: Johnny Sedes and Perucho Torcat.

*****

Johnny Sedes' Mama Calunga ('69) is available on CD while Salsa con Cumbé ('75) is on vynil only, it's rare, and has a great version of Moliendo Cafe

Here is a link on him: Buscasalsa.com/Johnny-Sedes-Biographie

Perucho Torcat died before the release of what had to be his first solo LP.

Only a couple of songs were waiting to be made before the issue, and among the ones which were ready, there was a wonderful new version of Vamos a reir un poco, whose "promo" is the hands of a Venezuelan Dj living in Italy: Carlos Ugueto (who has access to Venezuelan radio).

He always spins that song, and I'm looking forward to hear it again at this event, where Carlos is invited along with other 19 dj's:

Hi,

Some info about Mama Calunga, re-issued in 1994. Great album!

Johnny Sedes And His Orchestra: Mamá Calunga

(ISC)
