Is the best way to not care about how good you are?

So I started recording myself dance lately. Its possible once you get beyond the cringe factor. It definitely helps as it helps you identify the worse things about. Perhaps it's bad posture or looking down too much, things I have once had said to me before.

But I still think the most important aspect of dance is not care how good you are relative to other people. Sometimes you can stand there watching others dance, and just get shell shocked by how good someone is, leading you to think how bad you are in comparison. The best thing to do is not get bothered by it and just do your own thing. Maybe you are also amazing to others without knowing. If you let yourself become to competitive particularly in relation to others, not only will you not enjoy dancing, you will become extremely self-conscious dancing, which will in fact make you a worse dancer. So just do your own thing and try as much as possible to achieve "flow", which is dancing in the moment without a care in the world that you are dancing, and then only fix your problems for the next dance or when you are practicing.

In the beginning: yes. This is important for having fun.

Later on, you might start wondering how you stack up against others in your community, but that's kinda validation seeking and I don't really roll with that. A lot of people like to hear how good they are, which can work against them and lead to a big ego.

Recording yourself is the best since you are essentially competing against yourself. You'll invariably start seeing improvements by comparing yourself with yourself.
