Emilia Díaz Chávez, Director

Experience the heart and soul of Cuba through irresistible melodies, poetic lyrics and impassioned vocal and percussive performance. With influences from both the Caribbean and West Africa, the Creole Choir of Cuba tells stories of survival, faith and tragic history, drawing you in with infectious music.

“For us music is like food, it feeds the spirit and is a major inspiration for everyday life.”

What I liked about the show beyond the awesome music was that they had various videos with background features. One was on the neighborhood in Camaguey where they Choir members are from. It covered the history of their migration from Haiti and keeping the traditions alive. Another one was about their trip back to Haiti right after the earthquake and how that felt for them and for the people in Haiti.
Several of the pieces were in the Cuban-Haitian Zepol rhythm. Its the music near the end of this masterclass video from a different event at the same venue a couple of years ago.
