Cancelled: Summer Sensual Days in Rovinj has been discontinued

They used to have a Sensual in another city. Too bad, they don't just do all the sensual stuff there and have the Salsa event in Rovinj. But I guess they have their reasons.
They used to have 3 days of Sensual in Opatija before a week in Rovinj because it became too popular.
That said, it started in Rovinj and has always been there.

But you are obviously free to believe whatever you want to believe, regardless of whether it's correct or not.

You're correct. It did start in Rovinj. I was just thinking if they can't do it in Rovinj, they could just do it in Opatija and make Rovinj a Salsa event.

IMPORTANT: UNOFFICIAL DANCING IN ROVINJ
1f6ab.png

Dear dance family,

Due to the discontinuation of the 12-year-long Summer Sensual Days in Rovinj and the approaching 20th anniversary of the Croatian Summer Salsa Festival, we are compelled to send out a serious note regarding the unofficial day and night parties in Rovinj.

Unofficial city dance parties, although joyful, culminated last year when SSD lost its permission to be held in Rovinj. This unfortunate decision has hit us very hard.

⛔
Thus, we ask all of those who want to organize or join such parties in public areas OUTSIDE OF THE FESTIVAL'S FRAMEWORK not to do so for both legal and other reasons. Let us explain.
⛔

1️⃣
Unofficial gatherings jeopardize the festival and are against the law, inviting serious consequences. Local authorities strictly prohibit any public gatherings, day or night, and will enforce legal sanctions against them.

2️⃣
Such gatherings in public areas outside the festival's framework also disturb the peace of the city, its citizens, and other visitors seeking a peaceful holiday.

3️⃣
Your cooperation in avoiding such gatherings is not just about trouble avoidance; it's crucial for preserving the festival's essence and ensuring its longevity. The festival and the city must coexist harmoniously to continue bringing joy to dancers for years to come.

Unfortunately Opatija can't host nearly as many people as Rovinj can. Especially when we keep in mind that last year the number of people that visited Sensual Days was actually higher than the number of dancers at CSSF.

The venues in Opatija aren't big enough and there is less accommodation available than there is in Rovinj. And this lack of accommodation is a two fold issue. First of all, less people can stay in town to visit the festival which obviously isn't great from an organizational point of view. Second, because of the lack of rooms. this also means it's harder (read almost impossible) to find accomodation for the festival staff (between organization and volunteers they need to put up at least 100 people to match the amount of visitors in Rovinj) .

So in short, unfortunately Opatija just isn't big enough to replace Rovinj.
To be fair, it'll be hard for them to find a place that is both as attractive as a destination and can hold as many people as the festival attracts so I doubt there will be a replacement for Sensual days (although I know they've been looking into it) and I'm not sure about the future of the Salsa festival either.

Yeah, this is the reason Sensual Days got killed. The city council was fed up dealing with the **** that surrounded the festival.

However, for sake of full disclosure you should probably also share the post they made the next day that shares the free parties that are sanctioned by the city.

It's not like people have no opportunity to dance for free anymore.

PS, you don't have to like the festival let alone support it. If you don't like the festival, just say so. Nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't go if I didn't have the option of just hanging out with my friends there (yes, I have backstage access so that puts me in a different position than most) as it would be too massive for me.

However, although disliking a festival is fine it doesn't mean you have to spread falsehoods about the festival either.

I didn't see the post you are referring to. No one ever said there weren't free activities? Obviously, the pool parties are free and things like the concert in town are free. Feel free to post any new information yourself.

No need. You already mentioned them now. I just thought it was a bit unbalanced that only the post with the warning against the parties that the town doesn't agree with was posted, without mention of the other parties that are still available to everybody. Now everybody knows ;)

You are only confirming what we jokingly were piling on sensual about, that it causes problems.

That's been the case since before it was even known as sensual:

It looks like they are trying to discourage people without passes from even coming to Rovinj. There's just been an update that the beach parties will only be accessible with a pass (a large number of passes, but still).|

I wonder if that will help or backfire. I guess we'll know in June.

️
Access to this social dance paradise requires festival passes:
1f513.png
From Monday, June 10th - all passes valid except the Weekend Pass and Weekend Party Pass.
1f513.png
From Wednesday, June 12th, all passes valid except the Kick-start pass
❗
Entry to beach parties with the Kick-start Pass is only possible on Monday and Tuesday.

Circle Sunday, June 16th, on your calendar for the Grande Pool Party at Villas Rubin - a synonym for the wildest and craziest pool party of pool parties, which is included in all passes except the Kick-start pass.

Oh, do all my wildest dreams come true if I go there?

That's the party where you see people doing Kizomba in the pool, it's very sunny and hot with very little cover/shade from the sun, and there is a good amount of animation if that is your thing. I think there is also a mix of salsa/timba/bachata.

New announcement on Croatia.

STILL WONDERING WHY THERE'S NO OPEN-AIR SQUARE DANCING IN ROVINJ THIS YEAR?
ℹ️

As already announced, the main square in Rovinj, the heart of CSSF's Grande Fiesta and Dance Points, is undergoing a stunning transformation. This exciting makeover, valued at three million euros, began in late August 2023 and is set to be completed by the end of June 2024.

Well, the Grande Fiesta was one of the show pieces of the event. No doubt the organizers deliberately waited until late to make everybody aware of that. It seems this years event is full of negatives, no Grande Fiesta, ban on unofficial parties, no SSD event, hugely inflated ticket prices for everything coming with less access. I wonder what the future of this event will be.

Agree 100%. The thing that has always made Croatia special are the outdoor events.

I'm here at the moment. Trying out international congress scene after years of absence. The opening party was yesterday and it was nice. We'll see how it goes If any other forumites are here let me know.
