I was looking forward to spinning, but as you mentioned, El Canario performed non-stop until after 2am. I was supposed to spin, at 11:45pm, "during the break," but there was no break!
Afterward, one of the regular Chicago Congress djs wanted to spin half the remaining time, but the night was over at 3am, so there wasn't much time to share. So, I opted to give him my time. I only would have had time for 3 - 4 songs; which wasn't enough for people to feel my music selections or flow. It was best to let one person finish the night. He is their regular dj, and seemed to really want it. He literally stood in front of the decks nearly the whole time I was waiting for the break. So, I gave him all the remaining time. I still had a long commute back to Chicago so I was fine with letting him have it and starting my commute.
I didn't leave "early." I actually left rather late! The break was supposed to be at about 11:45pm and I was ready; with songs queued up in both decks. It was after 2:00am that I finally left. Waiting over two hours was more than reasonable.
No love lost though. It just happened that way!
