Do you have an early or late slot on Sunday ?

DJ Edgar Marroquin closed out the congress last year and as I was pretty much done with sore feet, arms and everything else. So I could only watch* fellow sf'ers Catarina and blkgitana score some really good dances at an awesome final set.

*Normally I don't do that but the music was great, the dancers were good and I didn't want to go to sleep.

After a couple phone conversations with Rosita over this weekend, we agreed that I would spin on Sunday, but she was going to meet with their advertised group of djs after our last conversation and said that she would get back to me with the time. I was glad that we came to an agreement BEFORE she met with the other djs. We all know that djs can be very territorial! The other djs are all great guys, so there shouldn't be much of an issue.

"When" I spin doesn't matter much to me. I just want everyone to be "on the same page." As soon as I know, I'll let you know.

The legendary, José Alberto "El Canario" at the Chicago International Salsa Congress!

Too bad El Canario went tooooo looooong on his set and you had to leave early. I was looking forward to your picks last night.

I was looking forward to spinning, but as you mentioned, El Canario performed non-stop until after 2am. I was supposed to spin, at 11:45pm, "during the break," but there was no break!

Afterward, one of the regular Chicago Congress djs wanted to spin half the remaining time, but the night was over at 3am, so there wasn't much time to share. So, I opted to give him my time. I only would have had time for 3 - 4 songs; which wasn't enough for people to feel my music selections or flow. It was best to let one person finish the night. He is their regular dj, and seemed to really want it. He literally stood in front of the decks nearly the whole time I was waiting for the break. So, I gave him all the remaining time. I still had a long commute back to Chicago so I was fine with letting him have it and starting my commute.

I didn't leave "early." I actually left rather late! The break was supposed to be at about 11:45pm and I was ready; with songs queued up in both decks. It was after 2:00am that I finally left. Waiting over two hours was more than reasonable.

No love lost though. It just happened that way!
