    San Franciscans unite

He is but he first made a name for himself as an instructor in the Bay Area before relocating. I guess he wanted to visit home.

    More on1ers wanting to learn/switch to on2 ?

Ricardo Tellez's group. Some of my friends used to be on his team and they told me that he would teach them how to break on both counts. This was several years ago though so that may have changed.

    More on1ers wanting to learn/switch to on2 ?

I know some dance teams emphasize teaching both at the same time. Rica Salsa comes to mind. Speaking for myself I learned on1 first and then moved on to on2 after my 2nd year. I think that helped me eventually get used to it and get a feel for it.

    More on1ers wanting to learn/switch to on2 ?

Agreed. Here in DC on1 dominates at the studio and dance venue/bar/club level in terms of instruction. On2 is taught at the dance studio, and I *think* 1 or 2 clubs/bars, but the number of on2 dancers is probably less than 100 people in DC, VA and MD combined. Sounds right to me. Start them...

    More on1ers wanting to learn/switch to on2 ?

Theory? I kind of see it like a clique or "what the cool kids are doing" thing when On1 dancers see people dancing On2. There's the "hey, what are they dancing on?" moment and then the desire to learn it. Why this is one way I can't really say for certain though the old arguments of On2...

    More on1ers wanting to learn/switch to on2 ?

I've never seen an on2 dancer wanting to learn on1. Always the opposite. However I have seen on2 dancers struggle with dancing on1 and these were actually pros (one current and one former). One would think an on2 dancer would have a pretty easy time making the switch but that may not always...

    recommend good men's dance pants

Ditto. That's a common sight that you'll see here in the DC/MD/VA scene. Or substitute slacks for the jeans but otherwise the jeans with towel look is what to expect.

Does your family know about you and salsa?

My mother knows about it and did from the start. However she didn't see me dancing till I hit the 2 year mark. She "gets it" and likes that I'm doing this.

Salsa Forums Meet Up at the 2008 NY Salsa Congress

I admit that it could've been organized better. Maybe a sign or something next time? Or an exchange of phone numbers? Food for thought. Wait, was it this green shirt? :D http://stuckonsalsa.smugmug.com/gallery/5874465_oprVH#364969295_fsabw-A-LB If so you should've tapped me on the...

Any correlation between star signs and who dances?

Given the limitations of the polling system, it *may* have been better to group the signs by their element. Fire: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius Earth: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Air: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Water: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces...

Salsa Forums Meet Up at the 2008 NY Salsa Congress

There are ways to sneak water and other beverages into the main ballroom if you take the stairs from the 5th floor. The lead you to the balcony of the ballroom and from there you just take the stairs that will have you exiting stage left. I was able to bring in my own drinks this way. :D...

New York Congress 2008 Roll Call!

Agreed. I wasn't a fan of SR's routine on Sunday night as the musical transitions were very abrupt and took you out of the performance. *LOVED* Yamulee's number on Sunday night as it was everything I expected from that group and more.

What happened to the "instructor challenge" thread?

LOL. SC was my old forum stomping ground before discovering forums like these. In fact it was Piero, who used to run SC, that pointed me in the direction of SalsaGang and that led to SW. The rest is history. ;)

What happened to the "instructor challenge" thread?

SalseroCorner was *the* place to be back in the day. I remember Jaime and Richie's arguments and conversations about all things salsa and mambo from 6-7 years back. It was good forum entertainment. ;)

Probably something we didn't see behind the scenes. I too got a little bored around pages 6 and 7.

What happened to the "instructor challenge" thread?

Darn. I can't find page 2 of the thread but can see pages 3 and onward. And yes, it's definitely a juicy topic. I *think* I see why it got removed... EDIT: Found page 2 and read up through page 7. Definitely an interesting topic but perhaps somewhat inappropriate for this forum in the...
