    On2 to On1 vs. On1 to On2?

There's a theory to explain that. Maybe the time machine requires a gizmo at both ends - like a mobile phone - in which case you can't travel in time back further than when you invent time travel.

    On2 to On1 vs. On1 to On2?

That's a really interesting post - and I think I'll go back over it more carefully when I have time because it raises many fascinating points. But it doesn't answer the OP's question, which was:

    On2 to On1 vs. On1 to On2?

But I like being mystical ... sometimes I try to lead with the power of my mind ("that is not the shine you're looking for"). Or I'll set up a series of subliminal messages along the route my potential dance partner takes to the club and simply stand still while she dances the routine around me...

    On2 to On1 vs. On1 to On2?

And when learning on1 while used to on2 you have to *refrain* from holding back that step so you have less time in the middle of the move. The question was whether transition one way or the other was easier, not whether there are differences between the two. Obviously there are differences...

    Dj's mixing or not

I'm not "blaming all young people" just pointing out that if you're over 35 you see a DJ as someone who choose and plays the music, not someone interfering with and changing the music - but under 35, this is almost your default definition of DJ. At some point in the 1990s the job description of...

    Dj's mixing or not

I hate songs that fade out - they're so weak and feeble and ..... just rubbish. Mixing the end of a song into the beginning of the next one does the same thing. If a song has an ending, give the dancers that ending - it shows respect to the dancers and the musicians. I can see nothing to gain by...

    On2 to On1 vs. On1 to On2?

It's not about control - it's about the muscle memory. Coming out of a multiple spin on1 you WOULD put your foot straight down. Giving the alternative view, I've had problems with on2 followers dancing on1 putting their foot down too late, or inserting styling that there's no longer space for...

Hmmmmmmmm I want you to wear this medal next time I see you.

    On2 to On1 vs. On1 to On2?

But that's different salsa styles, not dancing on1 or on2. And in answer to JohnS2: you're still stepping on the one, just breaking on the 2 and the 6, so your counting is the same. As I say, I know plenty of on2 dancers who can't break on the 1 (or do with difficulty) and until they get used...

    Raunchy Moves (Teaching or Doing)

Ha! Yes, this. The moves in the OP are ungainly, crude and look terrible - I could just about maybe see them being danced by close partners and maybe close friends who you know would appreciate them in a non-serious way, but the trouble with teaching them in a class is that there are going to...

    On2 to On1 vs. On1 to On2?

This topic crops up time and time again and I think they're pretty much the same and any claims one way or the other are simple propaganda to say that their style therefore make them better or is somehow more difficult to start with. If you can hear the music and pick out the one, then you...

the importance of shines for beginners?

While I can see the point of shines, surely a shine routine is essentially exactly the same as a turn pattern, just done on your own. In both cases you have to break them down into individual movements so they can be reorganised to suit. Whether you've been taught the shine by Santo Rico, Eddie...

Top 10 Top Ten Things Guys Do On the Dance Floor That Girls Hate

I'm guessing that women don't sweat then. I always try to be considerate (eg i don't pull my partner against my back when I know it's sopping wet) but there's a huge difference between fresh sweat and lack of basic hygiene. Women sweat as much and don't change their clothes during a night...

SF Shines Compilation 4.0 - resulting clips

Just watched these for the first time! Whoo-hoo, well done everyone. I almost wish I'd taken part myself now, (although no vid camera makes it hard) - would have definitely preferred the Barretto tune. Salsagipsy ... love the moves. I actually saw your back from the stage at Rollerworld...

    On2 Basic --- Bewildering

That sounds odd, as the 2 and 6 are the most musically emphasised beats in the sequence, to be late stepping for them for the whole song would feel very peculiar. I imagine it's much more likely to be stepping early on the 1 and 5.

    On2 Basic --- Bewildering

Wow - 8 whole pages discussing the pause in a basic step? I guess it MUST be bewildering. I'd question that there should be any pause when dancing on1 either. The only basic I've come across where there's a real pause (not caused by bad dancing) is a son basic.

    Best compliments ever!

Well, having been on a salsa holiday to (near) Barcelona last month, two of the women have since told me that a dance with me had been their best dance of the whole holiday. I was pretty surprised by this (although extremely flattered - it's nice to have your ego massaged) because a: the women...

White Dance Shoes = Good Lead?

Are women at all interested in watches? I thought that was just a male over-compensation thing (like red sportscars) ... the bigger and more sparkly the better. I've never heard women discuss watches at all.
