In some of the salsa music threads he sometimes posted music or commented on tracks he liked. If you check the ‘best slow salsa songs’ thread one of the last comments is from him saying there are a lot of good songs that have been posted and he needs to work through them..

I notice that the bachata dips, head rolls and cambre haven’t reached Tokyo yet. Quite a few body rolls and quite acrobatic.

I am not sure I like the words ‘rotation’ and ‘roll’ for the shoulders. Maybe there is some dispute about this or different philosophies. I haven’t watched the Pineda video yet and he is usually good.

Thus, a little strange to call sensual bachata a cultural appropriation. We can say the dance was mostly created in the Caribbean. But, even the partner dances originally came from European ballroom traditions.

Were there not Spanish/European influences on bachata in the Caribbean? Instruments, etc?

In the above definition, improver level was missed out which is where a lot of people will be, especially in a local social. Sprinkled in with some proper intermediate level dancers.

@Offbeat Are you saying that moderna didn’t exist? I don’t think this performance would be too different from the dancing of the time before bachata sensual kicked in.

Generally it is said they use some salsa moves, quite a bit of footwork, and a few old style combos.
