Salsa Competitions

I was wondering how many and which are the international salsa competitions..
The ones i know of are

1.Mayan
2.Vaseline Intensive Care Smooth Moves(although i dont know if its international)

Which other you people know ? Which one is the most prestige?I assume MAYAN, but i reckon there should be a "worldwide open salsa" somwhere.

Anyone of you competing at the "UK Salsa Open Championship" this year ?

There are "Tropicana Salsa Championships", which claim to be international but seem to be very much British-based. Janet and Jhesus Aponte won last year's pro comp, and Osbanis's team won Rueda.

Another one I know is "World Salsa Championships" run by Issac Altman's World Salsa Federation. I've no idea how many world/international salsa championships there are or which one's most prestigious.

Nope, I don't know anything about it. :(
But Welcome to Salsa Forums!!! :D

Anyone have info on the San Francisco Competition? What is the scoring criteria? I have tried to contact the promoters by phone and email, but no one gets back to me.

World Salsa Championships

The biggest world-wide salsa competition is the Albert Torres' and the 2008 3-6 December 2008 World Salsa Championships out of DisneyWorld, Orlanda FL.

Qualifiers are run throughout the world, with one being held in Toronto during the 6th Canada Salsa Congress 9-12 October - Columbus Day week-end for the Americans.

Rules and music specifications are posted on worldsalsachampionships. com

Worlds are postponed this year till further notice. I talked to Albert Torres soon after he got the news and he made an offical announcement this weekend at the Canada Congress. Was looking forward to going there.

Ill be in San Francisco...my first Congress and Im really excited!

Have fun! Some of the best advice I can give:
- rest whenever you can
- bring a pair of really comfy thongs (flip-flops i think you call them in the US)
- bring at least 1 spare pair of dancing shoes
- make sure you have lots and lots of fun!
