RnB & Salsa - I know I'm committing the cardinal sin but

I know that many consider this a cardinal sin - as classic salsa music is sacred - which I tend to agree with, BUT I have to say that as much as I love classic salsa (and I do - my ipod is crammed of Los Van Van, Gilberto, Celia Cruz etc.), I do really enjoy Latino R&B, Salsa meets R&B / Hip hop etc. I love the fusion of different styles of music - I really like some of the music that has a hint of Arabian influence too. I like this different style because it changes the way I dance - lets me feel a different vibe while I'm dancing which brings out a variety of alternative styling which I love.

I'm after some recommendations for this style of music - anyone got any good tracks like this that they could recommend? I've upped my classic salsa compilation recently and am looking for alternative styles to add to my collection. :D

I've even found some really good R&B that doesn't have any latino influence which can be really nice to salsa to - any suggestions anyone?

Hi, Claire. Nothing comes to mind yet. (Need a second cup of coffee to get my brain working. ) Will report back if something comes to mind. Anyone else? :)

maybe try to find this:

papi sanchez
salsa remixes of LUMIDEE and SAUN PAUL by dj lil'jay
remixes by dj mingo
lil'jon, east side boyz, pitbull - latin hiphop( mostly marengue)

Sean Paul can be found at the music section of yahoo. There are a few on-line videos but I don't think the salsremix is to be found.

Re: RnB & Salsa - I know I'm committing the cardinal sin

Hi Claire,
Some recommendations...

Alex Wilson -- his band played at the last UK congress and was very good. I can recommend the album "R&B Latino" if you are into this type of music. I think "Anglo Cubano" is in a similar vein. He's just got a new album out I think.

"El Kilo" -- Orishas' new album. If you like Latin hip-hop, you should like this. Sample clips at w w w.salsafever.co.uk/shopping/cds.htm

"Urban Latino" -- DJ Lubi's latest compilation from Nascente Records. For sample clips go to w w w.salsafever.co.uk/shopping/cds2.htm. If you have a chance to go to Lubi's gigs, speak to the guy and ask for recommendations. He's one of the biggest proponents of R&B/Latin fusion in the UK.

The SalsaFever site did a CD promo last year, where you could buy Rudy B's "Lovely Day" and get their "RnB Salsa" compilation for free. I don't know if this is still running, but you can email them and ask about it -- there are some good tracks on the "RnB Salsa" CD.

And if your taste extends to salsa/latin fusion in general and not just R&B/hip-hop, can I recommend Salsa Celtica? Oh, and Africando -- there is a track in "Martina" (I think) that sounds quite Arabic to my ear, which you might like.

Kat DeLuna - Whine Up

I like Kat Deluna style of R&B with a Salsa feel to it. She also has a awesome opera voice that she shows off in the beginning of the video. She is very talented.
