Son Montuno
Vocal Sampling.. this unusual band was formed in the late 80s at the Instituto Superior de Artes de La Habana by pianist René Baños, singer / guitarist Reinaldo Santer, percussionist and bassist Abel Sanabria, singer and guitarist Jorge Chaviano, trombonist Oscar Porro , and percussionist Renato Mora. What is unusual about it, despite being all eminent performers of their instruments, they decided to do a vocal approach to traditional Cuban music, with voices by replacing all the instruments.

This characteristic earned them the respect of musicians like Peter Gabriel, David Byrne and Bobby McFerrin, among others. After contributing the song "Devil in Hell" for a compilation ded Luaka Bop, Byrne's label, were produced by Faro Figueroa for his first album, "A better way."

I have all their CD's. If someone think this is something that can't be achieved out of a recording studio, they must listen the live CD recorded in Berlin. Excellent!

not everybody can perform like this unless they know what they are doing musically AND also requires a great healthy condition. not everybody has bagpipe lungs and employs proper respiration techniques to achieve long notes as they use to perform.

discography at vocalsampling.galeon.com/disc.html (this not includes their latest CD, "Akapelleando" [2007]).
