The rhythms here practically scream salsa - The congas are playing a straight tumbao pattern and the tres is playing montunos. Then mid-way through the conguero switches to other rthythms (merengue/caballo in one and bomba in another) and then go back to the straight 4/4 salsa-type rthythm.
But it's not salsa, if you go by instrumentation. There are no timbales, piano, bass, horns, or even maracas. So if it's not salsa, what is it? I'm guessing it's some modernized form of Son, or else some new style of Cuban music that originated from son. I've seen videos on youtube of son bands that still play in Cuba. They usually consist of guitar, tres, maracas, sometimes a guiro, and bongos (most do not use congas). So what do u think?
