Cuban Bachata or Meringue?

Can anyone think of any bachata or meringue music by a Cuban group? The only thing that I've been able to come up with is:

"Que no se te olvide" by La India and Isaac Delgado from his "Supercubano"
album (bachata). I see on YouTube there is a salsa version of it also.

I seem to remember that Manolito had some meringue or bachata on one of his albums but I can't find it among the albums that I currently have.

During my last trip to Cuba in August (great choice of month to travel
to Cuba, right?), I heard quite a bit of bachata in the clubs, bars, and on
the street. It seems to be more and more popular on the island and so it
surprises me that I can't find more Cuban bands playing it.

There were quit many new Cuban-Bachata songs realeased in the last 2-3 years. They mostly have a strong RnB influence in their beat... I like that, but it´s not for everyone!

Here some examples:

El Chacal (Ex-Clan 537) - No Te Vayas

Jacob Forever & Nando Pro (GDZ) - Estando Contigo

Este Habana - Ayer Tuve Un Sueno (Feat. Arlenis)

Those groups doing these bachatas are all reggaeton groups actually.

Manolito has had some cumbias over the years and I recall a merengue called La bomba on the Hablando en serio CD.

Orquesta Revé had a "merengón al estilo del charangón" called No le pegues el pie" on Fresquecito.

Havana D'Primera has some "tropical" songs such as Historia Verdadera that are sort of merengue-ish at least some people dance merengue to it because it's a bit fast for salsa.

I have some weak memory of some bachata by someone but since I don't like bachata or merengue those are always the songs I skip on albums. Probably someone else can give some other names. Oh wait! Azúcar Negra had a bachata on the Exceso de equipaje CD. It's called Preguntale a ella.

They also have a merengue Vitamina C on Exceso de equipaje.

Oh and again not strictly bachata more a bachatatón but this is a song i REALLY like actually
Tras la tormenta by Arnaldo y su talisman. Maybe too fast for dancing bachata.

Ironically, bachata's now a bit passe in the UK - it still gets played, but the fashion followers have discarded it for the k word. (I have never liked bachata, nor do I follow fashion, I'm simply reporting the state of play.)

When something else newer and more sleazy/intimate appears I presume. I dread to think what that would involve - perhaps . . . oh, it's a family forum so I'll hold that thought.

Original de Manzanillo did quite a few things that could be called merengue. La India is NOT Cuban btw. Bamboleo did a merengue or two.

Thank you all. I'm not a big fan of merEngue (thank you Emoyeno!) and bachata either but I'm supposed to be putting together a "Cuban music playlist" for a Latin music night. The suggestions give me lots of clues to follow. I've bought a couple of songs already
off Itunes.

Good luck with your playlist.

Top from my head - there are surely 'alot' more.

Bachata:

Ciclon Cubano - Hay Amor.

Merengue:

Alain Daniel - Esa Morena.

Not sure if 'El Zorreo' from Bamboleo is counted as Merengue.

Sagitta mentioned listening to Tumbao Habana's CD Mambo Duro and that reminded me that there is a bachata that I always skip on that CD too ;)

No me conformo

.. and one merengue more: Tamayo y su Salsa AM - Que Quieres Saber

Thanks! Just found another bachata this morning:

Qué tarde es --- Combinación de la Habana

which goes against the rule that its the regetón bands that are doing the
bachatas.

Yeah so did the AN bachata, and Tumbao Havana, although I think generally the reggaeton artists are just going with whatever the flavour of the day is. Many of them used to be hip hop and then switched to reggaeton when they saw where the money was. So if bachata is getting popular they will also try to cater to those fans. While think bands that have a more established "cuban" sello do less venturing outside of Cuban genres, although not to say they never do other music styles, as witnessed by this thread. I think both AN and Manolito have been pretty open to other "tropicsl" genres and HdP has their "tropical" type stuff taht isn't exactly merengue but isn't exactly salsa either.

anyway...
