OK, fellow Salsero's and Salsera's. I've got a competition coming up in a few months and I've started once again to look for music cuts to use in a routine.

I'm looking for Salsa & Mambo instrumentals that sound dramatic. Sounds that will catch the crowds attention and lend themselves well to choreography.

Do you have any favorites that you'd consider sharing?

Thanks for the help,

Salero JR

I agree, Sonido Bestial is a very good and danceable song.

Flauta y Timbal - Tito Puente is a pretty good one.

It would help if you desctibe your dance style a bit for us. There are terrific songs that just do not go well with certain styles. From knowing your strenghts and weaknesses as a dancer and a choreographer we can give you better feedback.

In terms of my dance style, my stregths are more towards LA style On1 (I'm been practicing a lot of On2 recently, but for the competition I'm going to stay with my strengths). I discovered Salsa a couple of years ago (and I'm hooked). I have a pretty extensive background in dance, competition & choreography. I competed for many years in figure skating in the free-style and pairs competitions (so spinning is second nature for me and I've had years of experince executing all kinds of lifts and tricks with partners in competitions on a regional and national level). Years before discovering Salsa I competed in what used to be a nightclub dance competition circuit in the LA/Hollywood area. If you've old enough to remember the show "dance fever", I appeared on that as well. As you can probably guess from reading this, most of my experience blends pretty good into developing a fast-paced LA On1 kind of flashy style, which is why that is my strongest area. However, I think it true that the grass is always greener on the other side, which is why I'm working hard to develop my skills in Mambo On2 (but it's not good enough for competition yet). Hopefully this helps in terms of thinking about music choices.

Thanks,
Salsero JR
