La dia de la salsa - when is it ?

bailar y tocar

Son Montuno
This just came up in the just dance section. I had heard of Zeta 93's La Dia de la Salsa with 18 hours of live salsa in the park or stadium (?) in March. What is the info ?

El Día Nacional De La Salsa goes every march (not in a specific day) and is coordinated by Mr. Pedro Arroyo, programming director of Puerto Rico's full-time Salsa radio station Zeta 93 (93.7 FM in San Juan).

Usually is celebrated in a baseball park (San Juan, Bayamon or Carolina) and they bring various orchestras that play live from noon until 9 or 10 pm. In this year event they brought Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Gran Combo, Sonora Ponceña, Conjunto Libre, Siglo XXI, Willie Colón and Orchestra Harlow with Ismael Miranda.

Last year they brought Papo Cocote y su Nuevo Montuno (known earlier as Roberto y su Nuevo Montuno), Orquesta La Masacre, TNT Band, Orquesta La Selecta, Luis Perico Ortiz and Orquesta Revelación (with their original musicians) with Ismael Miranda and Joey Pastrana.

Salseros from all around the world travel to Puerto Rico almost every year to be part of this important event.

There's a web site related to this year edition:

If you guys want to listen to Zeta93 live: http://zeta93.fm (also thru lamusica.com)

I'm including below an old picture of Pedro Arroyo (early 80's) when Z93 was a newborn and Pedro promoted it with his Salsero Enmascarado outfit. With him, Cheo Feliciano promoting the "new" release of his Estampas LP.

Time flies...
