Did Emusica Stop remastering?

Hi,

You may have probably noticed that Emusica (Fania) has not been producing remastered CDs for a long time (one and half month or so) when before it usually produced 2/3 Cds every 15 days or so.

A friend told me that they did stop remastering...

Anyone has any info about this?

Possibly the downturn in economy is affecting things... However, it's worth noting that they also had a major slow-down in release of remastered original albums in November/December last year too. I suspect that the pace will pick up again in January - unless they are really having financial difficulties.
 
I don't think they stopped remastering. I heard somewhere that the last few releases didn't sell very well. They may just be looking at the catalog to see what may be good to release. They have already remastered and released every Hector Lavoe and Willie Colon album. Fania had a huge catalog, so they are probably queuing up the next few. I hope they release more Cheo Feliciano and Tommy Olivencia but that is just me.

i receive a monthly Fania/Emusica newsletter (anyone can subscribe in their website) and this month they just mentioned the existing christmas releases that were already available. But we miss other Fania christmas classics that are still not available like the ones from Santitos Colon, Impacto Crea, Ricardo Rey y Bobby Cruz and both from Sonora Ponceña.

their only new release is "Salsa, A Musical History", a 4 CD set compilation but details about it's content were no published.

i remember last year the releases frecuency at this time was like nowdays. maybe they are getting a break...

anyway, a time ago i published some suggestions for their future releases. let see if they finally grant my wishes.
 
Just received a small shipment

I've also been waiting patiently out here on the West Coast. I finally received a shipment last week which included 4 cds, the smallest shipment I've ever received since they began sending.

It's my understanding that yes, things have been extremely slow for Emusica which is the reason for the delay. I'm keeping my fingers crossed in the hopes that things will pick up and that the flow of remastered releases will once again, return to it's previous regular pace.

DJ Lubi (who put it together) says DJs will have most if not all of the tracks already - it's meant more as a nice boxed set that would make a good Christmas present for dancers.
 
I hate those compilation sets. I have everything so those sets serve me no purpose but I love the remasters but I definitely 2nd "el flaco rumbero".
Some of the unknown bands they should remaster. This would be hot!

BTW, does any1 have the remaster Gran Combo cd Esos Ojitos Negros???

i already have the cd but for some reason this particular song sounds a little off. its not the remasters one but its weird that its only this 1 song.
thats like another song i have from gran combo. i think "para ti oyente". there's a part of the song where you can clearly hear every note that ithier is playing on the piano but there's this 1 part where it definitely sounds like the cd might be messed up or maybe even he messed up @ one point and they decided to not fix it. very weird. i wonder if anyone else knows what im talking with this song....

all Gran Combo/Gema releases are now distribuited by VCM. Disco Hit sold them the rights and masters from those recordings, including "Esos Ojitos Negros".

If I'm not mistaken, last year Emusica did not release any remastered cd during November, December and January. They started up again in February. Perhaps, that is what is occuring again this year.

People are discussing rumors that Emusica may have to stop issuing remasters because of lack of interest (ie finacial incentive) and someone is making requests for pirated music.

Hmm

Virtually all of El Gran Combo's albums are available on iTunes. I have no idea if they are remastered or what though.
 
Who can I contact about getting a definitive list of ALL the Fania albums remastered up to the present time?

Or is such a list already on the internet somewhere?

I've looked on the Fania site and Descarga and their listings don't seem complete or up to date.

descarga has a separate section covering all the remasters. check the home page. you can also type emusica in the search box.

Muchas gracias, hermano.

I haven't been to the Descarga site in a while-the Fania remasters are listed completely along with the original release dates!!!! That was one issue that was driving me crazy, as sometimes the liner notes would not include this.

I hope they keep remastering their catalog-it really isn't just for people who like to dance salsa, it is also for fans of great music.
