Hey team,

Would love to hear what you guys think are good dance pants for guys (and where to get them).

Socially
------------

Usually just wear dress pants (issue not the most comfortable)
I find jeans heavy (after 5 hours of dancing lol)

Practice
-----------

Love the comfort of martial arts pants/cricket pants but not the most appealing and apparently too baggy so tough to see my posture/position properly.

*smiling28 confession: I bought some men's dance pants but they were like tights. Man, awesome feeling (under clothes lol but not just wearing that ha ha).

So what do you guys wear/recommend :)

I put up with jeans, although I see a couple of guys use sport trainers, like the adidas pants, or soccer pants. Basically light breathable trainers are fine, but I can never find any long enough for my stilts, so I just stick with an ever rotating set of jeans and use super breathable adidas running shirts. Then again I don't sweat much.

I use to do rock climbing and some of the pants that are sold for climbers would work perfectly for salsa.

Most salsa dancers here (men and women) dance in jeans... I see some guys in ripped loose-fit jeans, which I suppose are a bit more breathable? Also chinos and cargo pants. The dress code here tends to be very casual, with lots of guys in t-shirts. I don't think I've ever seen a salsero in a pair of ballroom-style dance pants here (or back in Scotland), except in performances/competitions.

i've seen sweats (maybe cricket pants could also work...the white stands out though). i use cargo or jeans. in da' club, i use jeans almost exclusively.

I just wear jeans. Basically my clubbing clothes - nice jeans, nice button down shirt... I like English Laundry shirts. Although lately I've been getting lazy and just doing the jeans + t shirt.

Never thought it felt heavy, maybe because I don't have anything else to compare with.

I used to wear jeans but I would wear right through them in a matter of 4 weeks or so! So when I found some loose pants from Gap that were cool and durable, I bought 4 pairs and put 3 in the cupboard! they lasted well until they were out of fashion, I'm on pair 4 now... I wouldn't go back to jeans unless they were very lightweight fabric as (a) I get more flexibility and (b) I stay cooler. I don't perform well when I'm too hot.

Yikes, you wear right through them? Do you buy cheap stuff or do you break dance on your butt?

I have 3 pairs of nice boutique jeans ranging from $150 to $180 a pair. Not only do they look nice, they seem to be fairly durable so far. Oldest pair is probably 3 years old, and I go out 2-3 times a week. Although I only wear them for going out. I have cheap $30 jeans I wear to work or whatever.

Lol. A bit of both. I didn't spend a lot on jeans, though I wasn't in the "budget" bracket, but once I started keeping my knees together in the basic, certain parts started getting a lot more stress & friction :-/

yeah some brands wear at the crotch way too easily (looks at Abercrombie). I've moved to Levi's and some other brands and found that they are far more durable. I use jeans because they ARE durable as opposed to khakis or dress pants which couldn't stand up to dancing 5 or 6 times a week in. I don't mind the heat of jeans all that much since I compensate with the shirt, but it's not easy doing afro-cuban rumba in jeans.

I could never justify wearing $150 jeans, but regardless of the price, I'm 100% sure there is no added durability, and in fact I think the durability decreases with price, because the materials of some of the better brands are softer. Even some of the custom jean companies in New York, you are paying for mostly the softer material, embroidery (if you're into that kind of thing) and the cut. imo

"Dance pants"??? There is such a thing? Do you wear it at home and then go to club, or go to club and change in to dance pants?

As long as it's a pair of pants, not sure it matters. If you can move in it, you can dance in it :)

For practice sessions, it is no different than something you wear at gym or sports training.

Oh the ignorance!
Of course there are men's dance pants. Very nice great-looking ones, which accentuate hip movement and leg extension. Just because YOU aren't men enough to wear them... :)

Goodness, what a dig!
I have to say I find those Latin pants a bit much for club/daily wear. They look ok on a stage but I don't think I'd want to see them elsewhere.

I love me a smooth salsero in a nice pair of jeans.

There are dance pants? Wow, I thought that everyone just wore jeans with a towel sticking out of their back pocket.

Ditto. That's a common sight that you'll see here in the DC/MD/VA scene. Or substitute slacks for the jeans but otherwise the jeans with towel look is what to expect.

Ahh you mean any self-respecting men would wear those things you see on the stage for a performance, as part of their club/daily attire? :) On top of that they don't appear too comfortable !

Well there are ballroom dance pants that some performers like to wear on stage. But they don't really fit in on a social floor. Also the lack of pockets doesn't help. Usually when I'm out social dancing, I'm in a pair of loose or stretch jeans. Loose because I've found out that when you start to sweat in a hot club and have tight jeans on, you can;t move your legs. :) Sometimes I'll wear a nice pair of dress pants as well but I'm usually a jeans + T-shirt guy.

When training though I'm usually in a pair of jazz pants. Only problem is that men's Jazz pants are hard to find so I usually just get the largest size womens pants. :)
