And now... Salsa Recordings that NEVER been digitally reissued

Abayarde

Son Montuno
I think the following were never released on CD. Got them in LP, but if someone knows were to get them in CD, PLEASE let me know...

Willie Colón - Especial No. 5: from the almost forgotten Sonotone Records back in 1986.

Orquesta La Grande - We Love NY: a very young Gilberto Santarosa singing "Satisfacción" and other 5 songs.

Guelo con la Orquesta Hanover- En Su Nuevo Camino [1977]: not so many knows the only (I guess) solo recording from the known Corporación Latina singer, Guelo. Ironically, "Esta Sellado" and "Quien Tiene Tu Amor" are included in several Corporación Latina hits CD's without giving any credit to this separate recording.

Orquesta Nater - Self Named LP [1972] - Inca 1028
Orquesta Nater - Cabellera Blanca (One Records)
Armonia '73 - Madrigal [1974] (their best known recording)
Orquesta Costa Brava - Misión Especial (Profono Records - 1985)
Corporación Latina - El Orgullo De Puerto Rico [1977]

Earlier Individual Recordings of Dimensión Latina, featuring Oscar D'Leon and Andy Montañez. I'm really dissapointed that excellent recordings like "Presentando a Andy Montañez" and "780 Kilos De Salsa" are still unavailable individually. This applies also for artists and orchestras that have most of their catalog works under TH/Rodven label. Universal Records Latin Division guys (the actual catalog owners) doesn't know or doesn't have an idea of the treasures they keep hidden (or maybe lost forever). The exception is Mr. Willie Rosario who managed to release his recordings on TH (made from LP's with so-so acceptable sound quality).

Mario Ortiz All Star Band individual recordings on Remo Records ("Swinging with..." [1964], "On The Road", "The Best of..."[1964]).

Mario Ortiz and his Salsemble - Borinquen Flame [1977] : From Borinquen Records. People told me this is the first Gilberto Santarosa recording featuring "Palo de Caña Brava", "Los Rosales" and "Regálame Tu Amor". In the same year, Mario made a christmas LP in the same record company with Ramito, his only one with a salsa orchestra.

Meñique - En Blanco y Negro [1981] - This one was made with a sub-label from Frank Ferrer's Tierrazo, OYE Records. Recently, El Caobo played from this recording in his radio program the song "Te Quiero Corazón".

to be continued...

Tommy Olivencia - Tommy Olivencia Y Su Orquesta 1978 his second album for TH-Rodven has never been released on CD. This album featured an 18 year old Gilberto Santa Rosa and Paquito Guzman on vocals. Yet the predecessor (Sweet Trumpet, Hot Salsa) to this album was released on CD in 1992.

Man.....this is like opening up Pandora's box............the list is endless here.

I'll start with these b/c I know there is absolutely no chance of ever having these reissued on cd, mainly because (as I've been told by various collectors and vendors) when the owner of the record store - Spanish Music Center and musc label SMC - died.............it seems his family - being clueless about the music business Mr. Gabriel Oiler was involved in - threw everything away, thinking it was all worthless trash. This trash included original tapes of many many many latin music recordings and many many many awesome LP's that are now like the Holy Grails of Latin music for collectors since, again, there is no way to reproduce.............specifically (since these are the two titles I seek), I mean:

Wayne Gorbea - Salsa Boricua
Joe Acosta y sus Empresarios

In fact.......one vendor let me listen to a song from Joe Acosta's lost album.......Mambo Potente...........and I don't think I've ever heard anything like it!!!! Song starts and you feel like there's 80 trombones right around your head blasting away at you........absolutely incredible!!!!

here are some more I recently found a batch of sealed LP's of:

Label: Ebirac

Orquesta La Justicia - Salsa Con Nostalgia
Orquesta La Solucion de Chicago - Desde Mi Barrio en Chicago
Orquesta La Solucion de Chicago - Mi Barrio en Fuego

Last week i found this CD with songs that never be digitally.

joenostakii......welcome to salsa forums where many well-informed people reside and many salsa friends can be made......you're probably about to get an earful from one of our many members who rightfully uphold the notion that music should not be shared on mp3 considering it is illegal. I, coming from a collector's standpoint who invests a small fotune in rare and non-rare latin music, strongly agree!!! I appreciate your offer, but will gladly refuse.....I'm after the record itself anyway. Cheers...Erik

I thisnk that you are wrong because I have the masters of the LP and on MP3 and they sound like the day it was recorded

there are some bootlegs out on the market now for Joe Acosta's Los Empresarios album....but - who the heck wants a bootleg? Word I get from people who know Joe is that he is quite upset about that record being pressed b/c he wanted to issue it officially. And yes...just like any record in existence.....there are mp3 copies of it everywhere on forums dedicated to sharing music.

by the way - - the Expose 1, La Soledad and La Moderna de NY are also bootlegs. Don't get tripped up buying bootlegs. If anyone tries to sell you those bootlegs as originals....just check the covers and you can see the difference in how the covers were manufactured. The originals had the printed paper of the front cover folded over the edges of he cardboard and the cardboard was glued from the inside......the new ones you can see the folds on the outside. Also ... Expose 1 and La Moderna have a color border on the front covers that the originals don't have. La Soledad had it's LP # the same width as the FUTURO label plus the 2 little boxes that surround it vs these reissues that have the LP # smaller. Also, Joe Acosta now has a cover in comparison to it's original issue which was the standard SMC cover which was brownish in color with some instruments in an orangy/red color but no reference to the actual band. They had the cut out so you could see the label on the record. Also - - you can see the difference in the record itself....newly pressed records are sort of curved on the edges....where-as before they were flat. So ... be careful not to get ripped off with these supposed 'reissues'. they are bootlegs....just like the Dax Pacem that came out.....and the Roberto y su Nuevo Montuno. Word is....Rey Davila is next on the bootleg list. What a shame....

bootlegs distribution is almost reaching epidemic proportions. first in web stores, now in record stores everywhere (including Puerto Rico).

due the limited catalog of legal recordings, pirates are taking advantage by selling copies from original Fania (90's) & EMusica (2000's) releases.

Like here in 20th century, when black market was almost the only market.

I would not call copies bootlegs though. :) In music bootlegs are recordings from live concerts or rehearsals; something unreleased.
