Review: Vive Minnesota El Festival, May 24-26, Harriett Island, St. Paul
This was the first of its kind in the Twin Cities. An outdoor celebration of latino culture and entertainment throughout an entire holiday weekend. As anyone knows who has lived in this region, the weather will always be completely unpredictable and so it was at this festival: a hot summer night was followed by a tornado watch and the closing evening featured a cold Mississippi River Valley breeze. Many were not deterred and supported the showcase of Latin talent at this festival. The salsa performances were: Sensacion Latina and Salsabrosa on Saturday evening, Tropical Zone and Salsa del Soul on Sunday evening and Charanga Tropical on Monday evening. Melisa Riviere of Emetreceproductions, the talent mgt. company, was filming the performances so hopefully there will be youtube video clips coming soon (hint: a channel would be nice, then we can subscribe). It won't be long and we'll get the word out that Minnesota is on the map of live salsa entertainment.
