Darn, like Frankie Dante, hmmmm... Frankie Dante is the lead singer/leader of Los Flamboyan, a band known for their experimenting ways and sharing of ideas between musicians. Word has it that he was black listed by Ralph Mercado. Last that I heard of him was that he was selling shoes somewhere in uptown (NY City).
Los Flamboyan had a style of their own, not very similar to anyone I know. I would suggest you try Tipica 73, even somewhat Ismael Quintana because of his voice, except that it is much more melodic and appealing to the ear. They might be some close to Los Flamboyan, but not really. :? It is really stretching it to find someone with the same flavor as los flamboyan. Tipica 73 was into experimenting as well, you'll hear some wacky stuff from them.
Frankie's piano lines and horns are especially hot. If you like piano lines then La Sonoroa Poncena might be worth the listen. La Sonora can have piano lines like no one else, maybe it has something to do with Papo Lucca. Charlie Palmieri is great as well. Maybe a bit too old for some, never the less HOT. (try to listen to La Hija De Lola) see if you like it. It won't be a piano but an organ, still vey niiiiiiiiiice....
I actually really like La Muralla and La Consagracion, not the same as Frankie but from the same period. The sound is somewhat smaller though.
Songs by Los Flamboyan that I enjoy.
Fujitiva
Mi Nena
Maraquero
Los Rumberos
Sabroson
Por Que Adore
Chupa
Coquetona
Chupa El Piruli (done with Steel Drums)
If you can't get a hold of clips of the songs PM, I might be able to point you in the right direction.
thanx borikenSalsero...
well as you said,it is really hard to find someone with the same flavor...I have all of those albums, definitely Tipica73 getting closer :) but ın my opinion in Tipica piano lines are on the backgroung, but Los Flamboyan is different, very simple, piano and vocals are on the scene simply...(makes you dance like Frankie Mart. 8) )
I didnt heard Lamuralla and La Consagracion, going to find them...hope i MISS A LOT...

You are definitely right, the piano lines are the background in tipica. I think that in this case we would have to look towards bands whose leaders are the pianists. In tipica, they had Orestes Vilato who was a timbales extraordinaire, which means that their stuff would definitely lead towards the percussion instruments being in the forefront, along with the talented voice of Adalberto Santiago...
La Muralla and La Consagracion have a "small" sound, as I mentioned before, but they are hot numbers. :D
here is a hot one    http://www.geocities.com/orhunulgen/songg.mp3
any idea who they are?...attention to the piano lines, not on the background!(i hope so cause poor quality;)

Sounds very familiar, but I don't know. I'm going to guess this though: for some reason it sounds to me like NYC salsa dura from the last ten or fifteen years (probably more like ten), rather than from the 70s or 80s. Sorry, that doesn't help much.
