View Full Version : Popular Songs Mixed With Salsa
Hey guys,
My first post but this is really urgent. I've been looking for popular songs that are mixed with Salsa and Mambo.
I have a few but i'd appreciate many many more.
Like an eye of the tiger salsa mix will be crazy.
But here are a few to get u guys started! Apologies for the bad quality but these are the best i have.
Salsa to the 007 theme song
"Live Link removed by Moderator"
Cha Cha to Smells like teen spirit
"Live Link removed by Moderator"
Also there are the tracks that have the classical music like beethovens symphony number 5 (or as it's called Salsa Number V). They are welcome too.
Thanks in advance

Look out for the Chachacha cover of Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water.
Dame Cinco is the name of the Beethoven / Jazz cover.
Careless Whisper - George Michael
Fragile - Sting
Sexual Healing - Marvin Gaye

^thanks
Deeplydippy, do u have links to any of the songs u mentioned?
I'll post a few more up once i find some. I have over 30,000 songs so it's kind of hard to find music (especially when 7,000 of em aren't organised like they're meant to be)
But please, i'm looking for actual song links.
Thanks for the effort though. Much appreciated.
By they way deeplydippy, i'm trying to find smells like teen spirit, the guitar frets done with trumpets and all salsa. Don't care if there are no lyrics. And i'm also trying to find eye of the tiger all latinized.
Also there are the tracks that have the classical music like beethovens symphony number 5 (or as it's called Salsa Number V). They are welcome too.
Mambomania's "Dame Cinco" has been mentioned, but there are at least two other salsa tracks partly based on Beethoven's Fifth:
- "El Quinto De Beethoven" by Markolino Dimond & Frankie Dante on trhe album "Beethoven's V"
- "El Quinto De Beethoven" again, by the Cesta All-Stars, on "Cesta All Stars Vol. 2: Salsa Festival". This one is played is heard every now and then in London clubs.
Edit: And they're both great!

A cha-cha version of "Smells like Teen Spirit" ? - That's just wrong on so many levels!!!
I can hear Kurt Cobain turning in his Grave... or actually he might be doing a "New Yorker".

Have you listened to it ?
OK, the quality is too poor to play in a club but I like it :D I've text my regular chachacha partner and suggested we practice to it !

Yeah I listened to it. I have to say it's so kitsch that I actually quite like it.
Then again I like the Pantera Mambo by the LA 33
Everyone finds it funny and ends up loving it.
Sorry for the terrible quality, but that's all i could find. Can't get it in a better quality. Neither of them. If u can find them in a better quality please do post a link.
Anyway i had a CD in my CD collection somewhere that had some really good song in it. Once i find it i'll upload it for you. Like Girl from ipanema (salsa version), Favourite things (from sound of music, the salsa version) etc. But finding it will be a different story.
Anyway what other songs are there that are popular tracks mixed with salsa. They're great for performances and such.

There was a vote for "worst salsa song (http://salsa.afterhours.ie/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=139&FORUM_ID=12&CAT_ID=3&Topic_Title=Worst+Salsa+track+ever+%3F&Forum_Title=Salsa+Music%21&pollMode=result)" on the Salsa @ Afterhours.ie site and, guess what, practically all the nominations were for cover versions of english-language pop songs... strange that :D
Anyway, there are a number of such songs listed at the link above.
Hey guys
i found that cd i was talking about. Turns out that it didn't have favourite things on it. I'm still looking for that one though. But this cd has awesome awesome tracks on it. The good news is i found the CD, the bad news is that my best friend took the CD off me straight after she heard it. So i'm waiting for her to burn a copy for herself.
The CD is called Classic Meets Cuba.
"Live Link removed by Moderator"
I'll upload tracks straight after i get the CD back
After a quick browse of my hard drive for favourite things the salsa version, it turns out i don't have it. I remember having it and it's really bugging me that i can't find it. I've got my instructor all excited about it and she really really really wants it now, and so do i.
Somebody is bound to have it on this board. Can ANYBODY please, pretty please help me with getting favourite things salsa version?

Wow. I was just about to start a thread just like that and here it is. I am too looking for Salsa versions of various popular songs like "Lady in Red", "Hotel California" etc, etc.
I just bought a CD from Super Mario and it has "My Favorite Things" song on it. I absolutely love that song! I searched on AllMusic.com and found a CD that has it, it's "Live Link removed by Moderator"

Last night, I saw a hip hop/ballet preformance done by the Memphis Ballet Company, and part of the routine was to Favorite Things from the Sound of Music! It was one of the coolest routines...the choreographer combined ballet, hip hop, and an older, classic song to make a killer combination!

"Don't Speak" done as Bachata anyone? Still can't decide if I like it...I decide that I think it's silly and then find it in my head on a loop...Does this mean that somewhere deep down I love it?

I quite like the 'Don't Speak' bachata version - however in my experience the 40 sec intro that's instrument light, has left many people stranded on the dance floor not quite sure what they're dancing to..
It's on one of the newer Latin collections - not sure which, I'll try and dig it out when I get home (after I've been Salsa'ing - Spanish Harlem Orchestra are playing tonight - damn I'm excited!)

I believe the original song is by "No Doubt" - Gwen Stefani. Who is doing the Bachata version? Can someone post the Artist and the Album or link to the online store were it could be purchased?

I bought mine from the itunes store 79 pence. The group is called Sangre Nueva as is the album.
I agree totally about the intro though...and also the break in the middle of the song to a lesser extent where the beat just vanishes. To be honest I've never heard it in a club, someone told me about it and I was curious so looked it up.
I think you can play a clip on itunes if you have it. Don't know where else you'd play a clip from ....

I bought mine from the itunes store 79 pence. The group is called Sangre Nueva as is the album. Is that where the "Don't Speak" Bachata is? I found the album on the B&N but there's no song called "Don't Speak" and no Bachatas either, just Rap. Confused here... :? I listened to the 30sec. samples - only Rap.

I found another Salsa: (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, done by Frankie Ruiz, originally by Rolling Stones. Can be found on Frankie Ruiz CD "Leyenda" & Various Artists CD "Lo Mejor de Oro Salsero". Check Amazon or Barnes & Noble. At first it feels really weird, but after listening to it a couple of times I like it.

Daddy Yankee - Sabor a Melao (salsa mix)
For some twisted reason, I've fallen in love with it. Everytime I hear it, I'm horribly torn between dancing to the salsa in the background or Daddy's reggaeton sounds! Either way, I'm so crazy about this! :P
Well, I'm nuts. Happens to the best of us.

That CD is actually a compilation with songs from several new groups, hence the name. (Sangre Nueva - New Blood)
For those who might be interested, the group that sings "Don't speak" in bachata is called "Arjelis y su Grupo NV" which you usually see written as just "Grupo NV"

Just bought a CD from Wal-Mart called "Christmas Salsa". This CD has 12 X-mas favorites done as Salsa by "no-name" band (Tropical Fantasia). The CD is part of the "Reflections" collection, one of those music kiosks that you can find at shopping malls. The quality is appropriate for a $10 CAD, but it would sound just fine at the Christmas Party :).
Here's the list of songs:
Feliz Navidad
I'll Be Home for Christmas
Jingle Bells
The Christmas Song
El Arbolito
Do You Hear What I Hear
Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow
I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
Blue Christmas
Joy to the World
Little Drummer Boy
White Christmas

ooooh... i've been searching everywhere for the salsa version of Favourite Things!
There are two of which I'm aware: the most popular is by The New Swing Sextet, who haven't released anything new in 30 years, but are reported to be working on a new release. Their "Monkey See, Monkey Do" compilation, drawn from their only 2 releases, has "My Favourite Things", and is available from some retailers.
The other one I heard for the first time more recently, and that is a more conga-heavy version by Francisco Aguabella. There are plenty of his CDs available. I'm still waiting for Amazon to deliver my order of that one...
