Yes I have many... people I meet who are acquintances (or close friends) to people from the Salsa world! People who recognise me (although I do not) from Salsa! And many others...

Lol - Amy C. - jeez, I guess I should email her...
Remind her to practice "safe dipping" for me, willya?
Yes, indeed, it's a small salsa world... and in cases like this, it's a good thing!

Yes, she's a real sweety, isn't she? :D
Don't know that I'll see her again :(, but I certainly enjoyed dancing with her this past Saturday night! :D :D :D
She does have my contact information though so, hopefully, I'll hear from her...
So... how *did* my name come up in the conversation, anyway?

So... how *did* my name come up in the conversation, anyway?
Well, she's in town (here in San Diego) for a work project so happened to be out at my main local spot last Saturday night. A local salsero introduced us and, aside from sharing a lot of dances, we got around to talking. When she said she was from Denver I asked if she knew youngsta (who, by name, she said she didn't). She then asked if I knew any of the salsa scene there which I said I didn't, but explained, in brief, about the Forums, etc., and she asked if I knew anyone else from Denver. Which is when I mentioned that we did have a member who used to live there but had moved to Seattle... at which she gave a big smile and went "oh, you mean..." :D
She knew that you'd since moved to New Jersey and had only the best things to say about you... and especially about how encouraging and helpful you were when she was getting started.
And that, my friend, is how your name cam up in conversation! :D

Lol! And thank you for putting it so nicely.
Miss C. did mention how magnificent your lead is, btw...
What's funny is how most us all know each other "virtually" only. I have to admit I wonder what it'd be like to know each other in real life. It would certainly help put a better understanding and perspective of a lot of the various posts, I think.
For example, on the Forums, I must admit that I tend to dwell more on the negative aspects of salsa and how to fix them, rather than in real life, where you'd think that I don't even notice them. When I'm out dancing, I choose to look for the positives and keep only the good influences around, and it's only when I analyze it, that I notice the petty stuff.
Anyway, it's nice to have a mutual friend/acquaintance, and like you said, "It's a small salsa world."

Yup, I too think it would be interesting, as well as informative, to have real life—not just virtual—familiarity with each other as well. If nothing else, I find that it makes the on-line interactions more meaningful, as I discovered after I first met Vince A. (from the Dance Forums) and his wife.
As far as Amy, yes, it is nice to have a mutual friend/acquaintance. Also...

Thanks for passing that on tj, always nice to hear :D... especially given that I've built my entire style around exactly that—a smooth & clear lead. Please do let her know how much I enjoyed meeting and sharing those dances with her as well, and that I hope she gets (and stays ) in touch!

[P.S. tj, do you know if Amy does any WCS? If so have her get in touch with me before Wednesday. Thanks!]

...and this is exactly the type of thing I meant with this threads' title too! Here I am, in San Diego, communicating with tj in New Jersey, about trying to get ahold of Amy, who while currently here in San Diego is from Denver, which is where tj knows her from (previous to his living in Seattle of course)!!!

This thread has languished long enough, anyone have a small world story, salsa or otherwise ?
I think I just scored for bumping the-longest-dormant-period thread.

I did a small translation job last year.
Earlier this month, I met and danced with a visitor from NY.
A few days ago, it suddenly dawned on me that the visitor from NY was the author of the document I translated last year.
There have been many occasions where a vistor comes to Tokyo and tells me "I know you... we danced at [enter a congress or a salsa venue in UK]", but I think this is the first time I had a "small world" salsa experience with a non-salsa connection.

I have a friend in St. Louis who is from D.C., where she met a guy who I know in the scene here in L.A. Seriously, like a week before I met him she was like "do you happen to know a guy out there named Solomon?" And I was like "no, but if he's a regular I'd probably recognize him". So then at a slow Friday night venue, it was reasonably late and I was about to leave, but my favorite follow showed up so I didn't. She was with a friend and she introduced him to me, saying "this is Solomon", but it was loud so I heard "this is Saul" haha. After about 15 minutes I realized I had it wrong and this was the guy my friend Lauren in St. Louis had asked me about. So I'm originally from Chicago, and Lauren and Solomon are both from D.C. I met Lauren in St. Louis during college, a couple years later she and Solomon met randomly when they both happened to be visiting home, not long thereafter Lauren asked me if I knew Solomon, then about a week later I met him.
I also have a more local scale one: When I was living in my old apartment I got monthly parking in a nearby structure. Then one day I saw the guy who worked at the gate out at a club I was frequenting at the time . After we both got over the shock of finding out the other guy was a dancer too, I asked him what brought him to the club that night. He said he came out because it was his friend's birthday and he was meeting her a the club. That friend turned out to be my old instructor.

lol... could be, seeing as its been dormant for almost four years.
Not a small salsa world story exactly, but related insofar as how we know each other, I got a couple of odd looks from people at the LA congress when I told them I was "waiting for friends I've never met." ;)

Another, a bit more local one...
I taught an absolute beginners class last month. I sent my students an email inviting them to a salsa night where my hubby will DJ. One of the students emailed me back to say she knows hubby through his day job.

So we went to the DC salsa congress this past weekend and the first performance was by a group Joie de Vivre who danced to a song called Chittlins and Chalupas by an Atlanta based neo-jazz band called Jaspects whose trumpet player i went to high school with in Connecticut.

Yesterday I arrived in Barcelona. (OT: I'm going to stay till the end of July, if anyone is going to Barcelona any time soon, I'd love to meet up :) ). Tonight was my first salsa night of hopefully many to come.
I ran into a guy I had met on the salsa cruise a month ago. When I asked him if the place was always as packed on Fridays (I went to Antilla and it was almost impossible to dance, I had some awesome dances though :) ), he told me it was actually the first time in two years that he's been to Antilla. He usually goes to a different club on Fridays.

I trained a young lady, who was over here in the UK on exchange from Cornell, to become a salsa instructor.
She went back, graduated, and went to Michigan for a post-doc. While she was there, she did a bit of teaching. One of her students there finished University and took up a job overseas in Singapore.
My brother's wedding reception had a salsa demonstration where one of performing members was this guy from Michigan. His partner was my bro's former colleague.
