Madrid

Got a weekend in Madrid (Friday/Saturday/Sunday night) coming up soon - any recommendations?

I dance cross body/puertoricense/en linea on 1 but I'm learning Cuban and I like rueda. My Spanish is probably just about good enough to follow a class, though it's the free dancing I'm really interested in.

I'm going with my dance partner so if all else fails we can keep each other entertained as long as the music's good...

dude, i just made a topic if you could check same page maybe 6 topics below you will find the info you need. fyi, there is a big salsa congress in madrid next weekend, just follow the links.

I was in Madrid in April 2007 and visited two weekly venues - El Son (Tues) and Randall (Weds). Both places were teaching Cuban style and had most people dancing Cuban style afterwards. It seemed like a few people dancing LA/NY type were all tourists. The music was typically 5-8 Salsa followed by 3-4 Merengue followed by 3-4 Bachata in both places.

I was told that Tropical House teaches LA/linear style and has more people dancing in such style, but the people who told me this were not very good so I'm not sure that it would be particularly good. Madrid is very Cuban-style heavy dancewise.

This weekend has Simposium International Madrid 2008 (20-23 March). If you are there at this weekend, it might be the best bet - provided you don't mind very late starts (shows starting after 1 AM, etc so dancing doesn't start til maybe 2 AM) and sloping concrete floors and overcrowded Saturday (as bad as Scala Bank Holiday at its height except it goes on longer). It's all slot/linear style there.
