Hi All,

I doubt that the song I am searching for is obscure, just that my request may be slightly so. I've been looking at the posts here for quite a while now and apart from discovering a couple of great songs, some of you salseros really seem to know your stuff. So I thought I'd join and give it a go 8)

So here goes. One of the clubs I dance at, the DJ is a nice guy and ususally helps out when I ask him for the name of a track etc. But he has quite a few comps. and burned copies so sometimes the information is incorrect. This is one of those. Trouble is, I can't tell you the name of the song or artist, but I love it so much, I just have to find it. It is almost certainly in the more 'modern' style of salsa, possibly Timba but I don't really know the music that well to be certain. The song is very much like Los Van Van - same sort of tempo as 'Esto Te Pone La Cabeza Mala' (what a great song IMO) and definitely very heavy on percussion and rhythm, like Sonora Carruseles and a lot in common with the song El Negro Palmao by Pedrito Calves. So the song absolutely rocks, with driving percussion and rhythm and an almost rap style of vocal delivery, with repeated hooks - almost a Reggaeton style. The DJ told me it was on a salsa compilation CD and that it was called Sexy Lady by Jean Paul - but I cannot find any reference to such a song anywhere.

So I don't expect anyone to put their finger on exactly which song it is - but if anyone can make any suggestions as to who or which song to check out - I'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Nope - nice try. We are definitely talking salsa here - I did the usual searches for all permutations of the name and title - nothing close. That's why I suspect the info is wrong. I'll keep waiting and searching 8)

How about Plante Bandera? Original artist for this song is Tommy Olivencia but there's a popular version with some reggaeton influences on Tego Calderon's CD who is mainly an artist in the hip hop/reggaeton genre.

Thanks for that but sadly another no. Think more up tempo - same sort of pace and feel as the Los Van Van track I metioned. I thought it could have been them but cannot find a track like it anywhere in their work. But definitely their type of 'percussive' feel. I used the phrase 'modern' to indicate the likelihood of it coming from the likes of Fruko, Los Titanes, Sonora Carruseles, those sorts of artists. Of course I don't know this.

Hmm, I've listened to Los Van Van and have no idea what that might be. Bummer. :( Anyone else?
