Salsa--spicier than ever!

Not the usual at all! The charming Jaana takes up an absolutely delightful solo salsa routine, danced with that very Latin flavor. You can also use bits from this routine in other solo moves you know, quite easily, as long as they fit in with the look.

Absolute beginners to salsa would find this a little daunting, or would probably not be able to figure out the variations in rhythm for the footwork done here. You must also have been through Jaana’s Core Isolations DVD for ladies Latin styling to use this DVD on salsa because the thorough use of isolations is what makes every move look great. If you’re an intermediate to advanced dancer, and if you know your isolations well, it will be easier. But even a beginner can pick up styling tips from here.

Jaana breaks up the whole routine into 3 segments. She takes up separately for each, the footwork, the “body” work (hips, ribcage, etc), and arm styling. She uses more arm styling than I’ve seen others use. She dances the completed segment with and without music and counts. All the same, after many reruns, I still feel the instruction is somehow not detailed or slow enough though I can’t pinpoint what she’s left out as such. It all goes by too fast for something fairly complex. I wish too that the routine had spanned an entire song—it’s over before you know it.

The footwork here is the easy part. If you’ve got that, you can translate these moves into some other routine. But until you’ve got the isolations that go with it right, it jus t won’t look the way it’s supposed to.

But what a wonderful DVD. I’ve seen no other quite like it and it’s not the usual routine of New York style shines. It’s a fantastic routine choc full of Latin spice.

The DVD costs $39 and if you buy it from http://starlightdance.com/store/ladies_latin_styling.shtml#DS053 there’s buy 2 get 1 free deal. You can see a little clip on each of her DVDs.
