I was watching Alex da Silva videos and he has a couple of patterns that use bodyrolls they look very nice but I am having trouble doing them, I really think I look like a prehistoric beast trying to do them, It keeps reminding me of jurasic park when I see myself in the mirror. any tips ?

One tip is to practice body isolations. Particularly your center. Does he demostrate how to do them in "technical" sense at all on this video tape?

he actually does but with a partner, I have tried pretting the wall is my partner but is not working very well :P since i practice a great deal by myself ( for now) hopefull I can figure out some how

I've been studying a lot of videos (instructional DVDs, that is) and it seems like EVERYTHING depends on ribcage isolations and hip isolations. And combinations of these. Eg rib cage shift followed by hip roll to the same side. Very tough stuff indeed. I can't seem to get my hip from lifting a bit when I do a rib cage shift! Most frustrating. Maybe Peach's chair exercise will help with that. To my horror though I find there are no arm chairs in my hosue.

Oh.. am putting in reviews of DVDs in the review section. Will soon review one on Latin Core Isolations.

Oh ok, you mean buy DVDs... I thought you meant some video clips. How about putting in some reviews of these in the Member Reviews section too? I have 19 DVDs now and before buying any more, I'd want to know if I'm just letting myself in for more of the same. (About time too!). Pity they don't put in some clips to let people know what they're buying.

about body rolls

PielCanela,
I can so relate to feeling ridiculous trying to do body rolls. Al Espinoza has a millenium style mens styling where he breaks down how to do body waves up, down, to the side, twist waves, and how to incorporate them into dancing. It is probably the best dvd I own out of like 13 salsa dvds. I took a private with him in L.A. and we spent like about an hour on different waves. He said to practice you should stand flat against a wall with every part of your body against the wall. First you lift head off and nothing else, then your shoulders, then hips all the way down. At the bottom you kind of turn your knees in and yor ankes will point out and your toes in. Then your thrust from (push through) your toes and push legs back against the wall, then hips, then lower back, etc. Its kinda hard to explain, but I have it on videotape and I could send you a copy if you want. My email is [email protected] if you want to work out me mailing you what I recorded with Al. After all, he is the master of the wave!
