Chicago Venues?

Terremoto

Changui
I will be in Chicago from January 5th (Saturday) to January 11th (Friday). Can anyone let me know where to go dancing (preferably on 1)?

I was just in Chicago this week. I only got to go out Wednesday but it seemed like the Buzz was a lot of fun.

I used this as my guide. salsachicago.com/n_nightclub.htm
Good luck and have fun.

almost every spot you go to will be predominantly on1 dancers. only on fridays at Images will you find a more even balance of on1 & on2. but since chicago is newer to on2, just about everyone who dances on2 dances on1.

buzz on wednesdays is great. there's a guestlist to get in free before 11. Buzz also does salsa on sunday nights--same guestlist for sundays will get you in for $5. there's another spot on Wednesdays that is more date-ish with live music each week from 7-11, no cover, funky ambiance & allegedly good food: carnivale. they tend to get really good quartets, or sometimes bigger combinations from the chicago salsa bands.
green dolphin on tuesdays is good--it's been a changing scene in hte last year or so. also a guestlist for that to get in for $5.
thursdays is best at excalibur. decent floor, good music, etc.
fridays at Images. other main option is to go to Rumba on fridays or saturdays, which will most likely be crowded and not a lot of the dancing crowd.

Let me know if you need/want the email addresses for those guestlists. I go out pretty often, so if you know when you'll be going, give me a PM & we can figure something out! Hope this is helpful.

3 years ago I went to Green Dolphin and it was a great night (really good atmosphere) but I'd been dancing all of 10 weeks, so I was extremely overawed.

Earlier this year we went to Rhumba and had a great night (although it was very quiet and we were there mainly to eat). I did meet Wo who is head of their entertainment and who grew up in England after his parent moved to England from Poland in ww2. Wo is a lovely guy and he is very friendly if you contact him before you plan on visiting.

Have a brilliant time - Chicago is one hell of a city (actually the only US big city I've spent any length of time in),

Thanks everyone for the recomendations!!! El Caobo I got your PM - excellent!!

I'm not sure which nights I will be going out salsa dancing - but I do need to get out.

Catarina - I'll PM you when I figure out when I'm going out.
