I'm visiting Tokyo next week for a conference. What are good places
to go out salsa dancing during the week ?

i was there 2 years ago... there are about a handful of places in ropongi to dance at. i believe the best one i been to was club caribe, which i recall danced primarily on-1 and cuban. there were others that emphasized more casino rueda. i even took a picture of the venue here is the number for salsa caribe:

Welcome to SF, ASuitableBoy :D

If you are only going to be there during the week, Salsa Caribe's the best bet. It's about 5 minutes walk from Roppongi station. There are many salsa clubs in Roppongi, but on weekdays most seem to be very quiet.

The most common style danced in Tokyo is LA on1, but on2 and Cuban can also be found. What crowd you get on the night depends on who's holding the classes on the night - i.e., you get more on2 dancers after on2 classes etc.

If you are looking for on2, check out this thread from our sister forum too:

If Roppongi is not convenient from where you are going to be staying, let me know as there are clubs in other parts of Tokyo.

Thanks for all the info. I'll try to make it to SalsaCaribe on Wed since that seems to be the night to be there.

If there are any (preferably english speaking) dancers in Tokyo who
would like to hook up with me - drop me an email message at meditationinmotion AT yahoo.com

Considering that on Ebay there are some passionate, deep-pocketed Japanese fella into vintage salsa, I am curious to know whether the music selection will include also the hits of the roaring 60/70's.

Just drop me a line about it, at your return, please ;)

I've always found the music at SalsaCaribe to be rather naff... tending towards cheesy especially later in the night. There are better DJs out there though.

I have seen it to, they buy vintage salsa LP's for 100 us$ or more....
Damn.... :?
