Hola! :)

my name is Triinu and I've just joined your forum. Seems like a great source for information - keep it up! 8)

My reason for contacting you is that I've been into Cuban style salsa for the past 8 years and I'm shortly to be moving to Manchester (Swinton area). I was wondering about possible classes, upcoming event info, where to find the local Cuban salsa aficionados/as, etc. I am also interested in the Cuban rumba (yambu, guaguanco...) lessons - are there any classes?

As the dance, music and language have become more than my lifestyle during the past years, I'd really like to keep myself immersed in it during my time in the UK. As the options for dancing salsa in Estonia are limited, I am very excited about the new prospects, encounters and experience to be had :)

Should you be able to help me out with a few tips, it would be very-very highly appreciated. In return, should you require any information about salsa over here, I'll be more than glad to help out 8)

Triinu,
I'm actually from Boston, but travel to Manchester on business a few times a year. I don't know all the places, but here are a few things to get you started. There is a restaurant in downtown Manchester called La Tasca (the one on Deansgate). Go there on Tuesday night. There is a woman, Lorraine (and her partner whose name I can't remember) who teaches Cuban style salsa. She should be able to provide you with more details on the local scene. Another popular club is Copacabana on Dale Street downtown. They also do cuban lessons on Wednesday and the instructors should also be able to give you some details.
From what I can see, cuban is the majority style though there are some cross body style dancers as well, which is good for me :)
I should be in Manchester again in October, maybe I'll see you around.

Really? I always assumed that Glasgow was the only UK city where Cuban was the majority style... I've never danced in Manchester so I can't help.

Witchphd :)

Thanks for the info! I'll certainly check the places out.

It means a lot to me to keep on dancing - it truly is something I cant do without. I know I'll be missing my Estonian salsa friends (some of whom I've known for years!). I plan to travel back to all the major salsa events up north but I know that the move to Manchester will give me more to work with in terms of learning and advancing.

MacMoto - I'll probably end up visiting Glasgow as well then!

Look forward to seeing you all on the dancefloor!

Con sabor! 8)

Gracias SDsalsaguy! :) Its so nice to be here - everyone's so friendly!

You know, every now and then I realise again that salsa has really changed my life, shaped me to who I am today. Its so important to have people around you that you can share your interests with - who understand, opinionate and give you feedback.

There's SOO many of you guys here...! I think thats great.
