It depends on what mood , time of day, day of the week, etc. I listen to all, no preference really.

I love New York salsa, but just when I think I'm really loving it, that darn Puerto Rican salsa goes on and I melt. God, there is just something in it that goes beyond means of reasoning and makes me go

I must have been asleep when I wrote this. This is not entirely true. :?
Now, there are very few new artist that I like. I own some of Marc Anthony's stuff, Son de Cali, Kevin Ceballo, Sonora Carruseles compilation CD's, etc. but my preference is leaning more toward the classic salsa. Particularly before 1985 or Salsa along that style. Hector Lavoe, El Gran Combo, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Cheo Felciano (I absolutely love his voice), Celia Cruz (the old stuff), Oscar D'Leon oh gosh too many to list. They go on forever. :D

I don't do genres. When I say "I like xxx", the xxx tends to be specific songs rather than blanket classifications like "Puerto Rican", "salsa dura", etc. And songs I like can be anything from what everybody would consider classics to very new stuff. It can be salsa dura, romantica, turbo salsa... I judge each song by its own merit, not by the label (genre, artist, whatever). I do sometimes say for example "I like Africando" because I like many of their songs and their disctinctiveness, but that does not mean I like all their songs.
Depends on the partner and the music. Some guys get annoyed with all the flash of LA, but I think that's my favorite.

I actually quite like the new salsa or rather mixed salsa - it brings new life to the music :)
Has anyone heard Tito Nieves's new song Ya No Queda Nada - its got a bit of a reggaeton mix in it and I think its one of the better "new" salsa.
And Sonora Carruseles ft Bimbo - Micaela and Rico Boogaloo?
What do you people think of these songs?
I've been playing them for a while - and some dancers think its weird. In my opinion - I think its quite nice to dance to it.

Hi Morphy! Welcome to the SF family. Happy to have you here! :D Some folks think Sonora Carruseles is wierd? Really?
Well, I like both Sonora Carruseles and Tito Nieves. Although, the only song I own by Tito Nieves is "I like it Like That" which is Cha Cha or a Club Mix depending own what version. My real salsa preference is mostly in the 70s-early 80s era. I like alot of the new stuff by El Gran Combo, Grupo Niche, Africando, Son De Cali, Spanish Harlem Orchestra...... :)

Thanks - I accidentally stumbled on this forum while goggling on salsa :)
Well the original version of Sonora Carruseles (micaela & rico boogaloo) is everyones' favourite salsa. But recently I strumbled across a version of both of those songs with some reggaeton in it. :)
Just wondering if anyone has heard it before.... and what do they think about it.
I could post a mp3 version of that Tito Nieves song if I'm allowed to. :)

those are both really good songs...
if you like those 2 by Tito Nieves i would recommend a few others that i think you might like (if you have not already heard them before)...
No me vuelvo a enamorar
De mi enamórate
Que me hiciste
Almohada
"Almohada" is a salsa version of the famous balada by José José and it is beautiful. i think "De mi enamórate" was a balada too, but i am not sure.

   Okay, don't blame you on that part. Don't like their cumbia stuff but their other stuff is pretty good. Boogalu is their specialty. :)

you are right, their bugalú is better... but there bugalú still has this kind of cumbia or colombian swing to it that just doesn't move me the same way. i must admit though that i could just be stuck in the past... el gran combo and cortijo both made some hardcore bugalú back in the day. the only word to describe it is WOW!
this is just my personal taste though.. after all, there are colors for different tastes (<-- if that doesn't make sense, excuse me... it is a saying in spanish that i can't seem to find a good way to say in english)

Yes their Boogalu (Micaela or El Pito for example) is very different from El Gran Combo's Boogaloo or Joe Cuba's El Pito.

I don't like raggaeton... so I doubt any combo of Salsa and raggaeton would make me wanna do anything else than kill the DJ!

Yeah! That song - "Fabricando Fantasias" is super... if you like that song - you will love Gilberto Santa Rosa's new song - "Sombra Loca".
La Comay - another good song .. I think by Sonora Carruseles.

Well - you gotta listen to it first. If you can find this song by Tito Nieves -
Ya No Queda Nada (from his new album - Fabricando Fantasia).
Try listening to it ... its really good...
Unless someone can teach me to upload an mp3. :)
