strange/wierd/funny behaviour while salsa dancing

ive started this forum for tales of woe we've had while salsa dancing either in a class or social dacing. here's one (of many) of mine:

while in an improvers class (level 2/4in UK) the teacher made a comment about making eye contact with our dance partner. this one girl took it literally and came right up to my face with her eyes wide open (think psychopath) abd refused to break eye contact. after a (short) while i looked away (slighlty unnerved) and she shouted at me to keep looking in her (manically staring) eyes. she didnt blink or break eye contact for a few minutes.

im sure this is lightweight compared to someof the nutters you've met.

Oh yes, its happened to me too and it was quite scary. It was definitely a psychotic look like you described. Something best reserved for a performance piece, not on the social dance floor. Nothing attractive about a woman who looks like she's about to chop me into pieces. I run and hide when I see her in the same vicinity.

eyeballs

that has happened to me when a guy took "eye contact" way toooooooooo seriously.

Maybe instructors could explain this in a more reasonable way? :) as in, please make eye contact during the dance as you would if you were having a conversation. :) :) : )

i.e., don't stare like a freakazoid, but don't look away the whole time as if you are embarassed to be dancing with them either....

There used to be in the Montreal salsa scene this man who would suddenly and without warning drop to the floor while dancing. And I do not mean a knee drop or a break dancing worm. I mean a fall-flat-on-the-ground-as-if-struck-dead-by-lightning kind of drop. The first time I saw him I was sure he was dead. But no, he would simply get up, smile, acknowledge the shocked stares of onlookers and resume dancing.
He was a pretty good dancer too.

RESPECT! now that is personality right there - welcome to the world of cheap thrills and self-entertainment. And a nice way to clear the floor and make some space! LOL

Does the word " epilectic" come to mind ?
Not really. The victim of an epileptic seizure will twitch and convulse. This man lay still for about ten seconds before getting up.

Not necessarily -- there are Gran Mals and far less demonstrable attacks .

We were leaqrning a move last week in class where we were told to maintain eye contact throughout the move. And most of the girls burst out laughing before the end of it (and not just when they were with me - I must admit I was trying to make them laugh sometimes  but even when I tried not to they would laugh anyway. I must have a funny look).

I know a woman who makes a funny simpering giggling noise all the way through the dance. Lots of ladies giggle and so on when a move catches them unawares, but this one does it CONSTANTLY. Most unnerving.

I danced with a woman who was shaking so much I thought she was afraid of me.

I asked if she was cold before before diving in and asking why she was shaking but she couldn't give me an answer ...

Ha ha, too funny!

But was it in time...............................

(you could have done the PARAMEDIC move). Not sure if you have been taught but you usually stand over your motionless partner and press hard into his chest whilst yelling 'CLEAR'

Always guaranteed to get the crowd involved..........

DISCLAIMER: NEVER PUSH INTO SOMEONE'S CHEST, LIKE THE PARAMEDICS DO, WHEN THE PERSON'S HEART IS STILL BEATING

Ha!

This is a funny great thread :) :) :)

not laughing at people but laughing at our reactions for what we consider weird. And laughing that lots that I do would also make people laugh :)

Hmmm examples.

Most would be from me.................ha ha

drunk/drugged people get their own category but have stories from that.

Sorry about that  Didn't mean to unnerve you ;)

ok, had to REALLY think of something to add. You sort of just forget these sort of things i guess.

One time, asked this girl to dance, she said yes so boogeyed out onto the floor (leading her by the hand). Sort of groove as i walk out to get into the song/rhythm/feel.

Then found space so stopped the girl took her in closed hold and...........................BAM, she literally turned and ran!!!!!!!!

*not a word spoken.

She ran off the floor and out of the club. So I boogied by way back off the dance floor in reverse. Must have looked HILARIOUS to anyone watching as the look on my face was PURE shock and I literally boogied on out there, girl runs away and I boogie back off..................

Funny thing is. this GORGEOUS girl saw it and felt sorry for me so grabbed for a dance when I got off the floor. She is easily the most physically stunning girl there and a GREAT dancer (the head instructors girlfriend). Super nice too. She has ALWAYS grabbed beginner guys and got them out on the floor. Most are intimidated by her insane beauty so it sends a LOVELY message about what the night is about (encouraging each other especially the beginners and not about hierarchy)

*saw the 'runner' another night and she explained sorry but her ride was leaving so she had to run.............We have danced since.

The ink on my blacklist tends to fade very quickly if the girl is nice.....ha ha

I danced with someone like that years ago at a congress. I said something like "don't be nervous!" and she said "oh, don't worry, I just shake like that." I guess it was something neurological.
