I have been reading about timing and they say that beginners find it easier to dance to fast songs because it's less noticable when they are off beat. they say that you should absolutley practice to slow songs until you have mastered the timing.......I"m determined to learn the timing so ....
please offer your suggestions on slow tracks! thanks!

Wow, You are the first beginner I've come across whose main concern isn't learning moves. Sweet!!!
Have you ever thought about listening to cha chas? Some times it is very helpful to listen to them, the beat is extremely noticeable which can then be applied to salsa. One of my instructors always practiced all his moves to cha chas, then he would try them in Salsa...
Nonetheless, here are a few slow songs that might help you out...
1- Carimbo - Ismael "Maelo" Rivera
2- Bamba Cure - Ismael "Maelo" Rivera
3- Huracan - Bobby Valentin
4- Total Para Nada - Bobby Valentin
5- El Gato - Bobby Valentin
6- El Jibaro Y La Naturaleza - Bobby Valentin
7- La Cosquilla - Bobby Valentin
8- Explorando El Ambiente - Cabrerita
9- El Son De Santurce - El Gran Combo
10- El Buen Pastor - Raphy Leavitt

Boriken, funny you should mention to practice to Cha Cha because the article I read on timing mentioned Cha Cha but I thought that sounded a bit odd...glad to hear you recommend it as well....i'm going to show my ignorance but are any of the tracks you listed cha cha? if not, can you recommend some good cha cha....
thanks!!!!

Boriken, how about "Bamba Cure" as Cha Cha? :( I feel cha cha on that one. It's very slow though. I better stop right here before I'm back on Maelo again.

This one is a difficult one, probably like lots of boogaloos, Bamba Cure is a boogaloo.

Oh ok. Gotcha. :) Edit: Come to think of it, Maelo does state that it's boogaloo at the beginning of the song.

I also like slow salsa slongs. Maybe that's why I like cha-cha-chá.
Santana has a lot of cha-cha-chá music, as has Jarabe de Palo.
1. Santana - Smooth
2. Jarabe de Palo - La Flaca

Funny, I was listening to Jarabe de Palo - De Vuelta Y Vuelta for the first time yesterday and thought how much they sound like Santana (not a recommendation for me :) )

Cuco Valoy: "Mariana Engracia" and "Pa Gozar Contigo" are both good slow songs. (Although I remember my teacher saying she thought beginners would find it difficult to find the beat in "Mariana Engracia.")
When I get home I will try to think of others. I've always wanted to make practice mixes with material at various speeds (but I don't practice much these days, so there's no urgency about that).
