View Full Version : Who fancies a meet and greet night in London?! :D

Hey - I've had an idea (that's come from a post in another thread but thought I'd throw it in as a different thread so everyone sees it!) - (not this week because I'm desparately recovering from the weekend!) - but how about we organise a SF / DF night out in London for us all to meet up?

Would be good to meet you guys in person and what better way to do it than a night out in the city all together?

Just a thought - let me know what you think people...

I think thats a great idea!

I can't make this week either cos unfortunately i have a million and one things to sort out  (*dreading this week*)

but we must do it, would be so good to get to know each other and meet up on the salsa circuit

Glad that you agree!!

I'll see how many people we get interested from both forums and then I'll put a date and venue foward for getting together - it may be a good idea to go to somewhere like bar salsa and then if people wanted to we could have something to eat there first - good opportunity to chat and get to know each other before hitting the dancefloor! :D

i must of read your mind i was thinking bar salsa too for the exact same reason, at least you have the option to sociolise with each other there, compared to other clubs you cant hear yourself think (not that im complaining tho) :)

Claire_Brummell

Absolutely! :D

Bar salsa it is then - I'll have a think once we have more numbers and let you know when it will be...

Great idea, Claire! :D

But I'm off to Spain next week for a month, and I'm not all that near to London, anyway. . . . . though would try and find an excuse to get there. . .

Hope it takes off, though. Sounds like an idea whose time has come! 8) :D

OK - this seems to be taking off way more than I expected!! I was expecting a couple of people already in London to meet up - but thinking about it I think a larger scale meet and greet would be a fabulous idea!!

So, rather than just making it a night (as it's a long way to come for some people just for one evening), how about we plug for a weekend of fun and salsa in London?

In order to give time for various people to arrive in London, others to get back from holidays and others to organise flights if necessary I say that we opt for September.

Currently I am suggesting September 16-17-18 (which is at present a free weekend for me - a VERY rare thing!!) We can plan to go dancing Friday, Saturday AND Sunday so that people can come to any or all of the nights as and when it suits them - it will also make it more of an event for those of you who are travelling some distance for it!!

During the day the Londoners among us can take the non-locals out to see the sights if you so desire...or we can simply recover for another night of partying... :D

Can I have feedback from you all as to if this is a good idea / date / if there are any other suggestions?

It'll be a weekend to remember, that's for sure!!

Hugs

Claire xx

Great - thanks a lot David - Right looks like we're set then. We will go for that weekend as a definate and then if people are coming from further afield then they could look at staying the week if they're interested and coming to the UK Salsa congress the following week.

I'll look into organising the different nights and find out what's on - if anyone needs help sorting out accommodation or if any other Londoners can offer accommodation for the non-locals then let me know - more details to follow soon! :D

A meet and greet would be great – I wasn’t dancing at the time of the first one (did it actually happen?).

Just to say I regularly bump into Prae, what’s more Mamboboy21 was at Sound on Tuesday.
AndrewS - we’ve probably seen each other without realising (our paths have definitely crossed...at the LDA last term my lesson was immediately after yours.)

Actually we may not have crossed paths yet - I wasn't in any classes at the LDA last session - before this session I hadn't been there since before Christmas.

As to when to meet up do people prefer weekdays or weekends?

OK – not much time to organise this now. I don’t know many drinking spots in Kings X (nor would I want to, it traditionally being one of London’s red light districts). However Clockwork (the venue where Salsateca hold La Finca) is only a ten minute walk away from the Scala, being between Angel Tube and Kings X station on Pentonville Road.

Unfortunately I’m still undecided as to whether I’m going to the all-nighter, so I might not be there. Even so, if some of you were in a pub/bar for an hour before going into the event, it would be rude not to show my face :)

I went to a pub near Kings Cross with my old football team. It was quite a nice place - wooden floors, lots of different shaped tables and booths. No idea what it was called.

I'm definitely going to Scala. Would be happy to meet up before for a couple of drinks (well, one drink - don't want to drink and dance. Very dangerous. For my partners anyway  )

Hows about setting a date far enough ahead, so people can plan (when is the event you mentioned ? )

Unfortunately it's this Sunday.

I'll look into the next big event i.e. an event likely to draw people from outside London too and will post when I have some ideas.

Just to add; now I’m a member of the landed gentry I have a spare room (two rooms potentially), in fact I even have two spare double beds (though this does include an inflatable mattress). As such, I can put people up, as longs as they don’t mind travelling from Palmers Green (about 45 minutes away from central London by bus and tube during the day and still 45 minutes by night bus in the early hours of the morning – the buses run every 15 minutes.)

A couple of suggestions, only because I happened to drive along Euston Road a number of times and nothing to do with any activities I may be undertaking in the area (!) there is a Novotel Hotel between Euston and Kings Cross stations. There may be a bar in there you can go to? Otherwise, there is a Pizza Express or Zizzi (similar to Pizza Express) opposite Euston Station.

Yep - get a bunch of salsa people together... and then not salsa?! Madness, pure and simply madness. People would be dancing to no music at all - a clear sign of insanity!

Looks like I may be going to London -- nothing booked yet, but the plan at the moment is to get there on Sunday 1 July and spend two nights, leaving on Tuesday evening.

So I'm thinking SOS on Sunday and Bar Salsa on Monday (unless there are other venues I should consider -- any thoughts?). If any SFers are going to be around, I'd love to meet up :D.

I've been to Play Bar a couple of times since then but haven't seen you there! two weeks ago was pretty good - the on2 night - and a lot of good dancers showed up for the social. Last night was quiet though - so many people head off home straight after the class. I turned up for the social and went home without having a dance :( as only about 6 people stayed. I'm going to try somewhere else.

if someone could find space to rent for 2 hrs or so on Sat. aft. (12 to2 ? ), and you "chip in " for floor fees, I,d give a class in Bolero ( basic) Cha, some old Mambo moves, and some Salsa exploration . ( free )

Saturdays are good for me. I'm trying to get in scuba diving on Sundays over the next 7 weeks.

As long as there is some notice, say 3 days, and I can find somewhere to sleep, any saturday in the next 2 months (until 18th Aug) is good for me. Sunday's I suppose are doable, but dancing on a Sunday night in London is kind of out of the question as I am jealously guarding my work holidays =)
