well, I am about two years late for this one, but.. just in case...

El Tobogan, in San Jose, Costa Rica, is a good place. Two or three nights play per night. When my boyfriend and I visited last, two years ago, we saw the Orquesta Tropicana

and La Solucion de Costa Rica

and then you have these freaking fantastic reggae bands, like Grupo Marfil, which we caught in San Jose, the capital

at this place called "La Boca del Monte"

All you have to do is get into a taxi cab. By saying the name of the club, the taxiguy will have you there in minutes. The cover charge won't go passed $5.

As far as the dancing goes, most Costa Ricans dance with a little hop... a cumbia hop..... but there are a bunch of salseros that will dance like any L.A. salsero would.

By all means... go to Costa Rica. It is a country that lives off the tourist and therefore, the more money you bring along, the more beautiful it'll get!
