guapea lead/follow

Hi everyone,

Much appreciate your help where you can with my dancing. I know I really need some private lessons and am saving towards that goal (amongst others, biggest goal is Singaporean Salsa congress........mmmmmmm)

Anyway, one issue I have in my scene is the guapea left hand movement.

(no problems with advanced dancers/good follows but definitely problems with beginners/improving follows)

* not saying it is the follow. I honestly think there are massive things I could do better especially to adapt to my follow so hopefully you guys can explain some

ok so guapea.

Back on 1,2,3 and to the side(forward) on 5,6,7

my left hand on 1,2,3

I sort of move my hand in a semi circle from 3 o clock to 9 o clock and back (starts on 1 and back on 3). This really helps me lead my moves. Some girls really wrestle with me on this though. Either having their arm super rigid or trying to pull my arm all over the place.

I find the good follows really relax with me and allow me to lead their arm in guapea maintaining the tension to respond to my leads immediately.

How can I improve this please?

Followers shouldn't be arguing with your arm movements, but it seems you may be exaggerating them a bit. You are bringing your left arm back to 3 o'clock too early if you get there on 3. It should be coming up yes, but shouldn't get back all the way until nearly the 5, when you're also going to offer the press with your right hand.

And three o'clock is a bit far over - better aim for 1 or 2 o'clock.

If their tension is way too rough/tight, you - as a Lead - can just soften yours to the point where she realizes something's wrong.

Think of it where you're having a conversation and are both yelling. If you start whispering, hopefully she'll realize and match you.

thank you both. Incorporated this into my dancing at the weekend with significant improvements.

Please double what I pay everyone on here for their great advice :) :) :)
