I assume it is not necessarily a dance term but I have seen it used by Salsa dancers on forums. I assume is means something like "Hooray!" and I assume it is pronounced Way'-Paw.

Am I right in either case?

Que? Soy un gringo, amiga! Boriken is the best person to ask. :D

Also, watch an episode of Looney Toones with Speedy Gonzalez...he says it all the time. ;)

SG

You two are always using it at DF so that is why I made the reference. :D

Yes peach that is correct. It is pronounced like weh pah..

It has all sort of meanings depending on how it is used. If you are having fun you scream wepa, to say yeah baby I'm loving it. If you see someone who dances incredible you say, wepa to mean wow, he is all that. When you see an attractive person you can say wepa, to mean OMG. As salseros mentions it can also be used as Hooray.

It is a purtorican term, if you know a rican listen carefuly when in a situation that stirs emotions of any kind. A wepa will automatically pop out.

It is even used when someone makes a mistake, we look at them and use wepa to mean, you dumb a$$ didn't you see that coming.

It goes with just about anything emotion, even when you are surprised by someone you can say wepa nene, as in woohoo you scared me.

I usually use it to mean. wooooohooooo, you go girl/guy lets get cracking, ahhhhh, and have some fun!

A friend of mine put me onto the word "Essssssssssoooooo!!!!!" (pronounced eh-so for those non speaking spanish people out there  ). It's central american but means the same thing as WEPA!! I say it for everything now
