Marchant Birch's new DVD

Jambo

Changui
Marchant Birch's DVD has just arrived

Anyone else got it? I've got a bit of a problem - It's playing back and white in my DVD player and I'm having trouble navigating :( pretty sure it must be a compatibility problem with my DVD player (Panasonic recorder DMR-EH50) but would be interested to know if anyone else has got this problem.

Other than that, from what I've seen so far, the moves look really good and so smoooooooth :D Marchant floats my boat ;)

you betta post ur review .......

and Jambo, please stop coming up with new threads..i know ur intentions Tnago lover

Just tried it on my MacBook and it works fine (colour and navigation) :D, so it's a Panasonic thing then .

Definitely a problem with older players - is the DVD really a Video CD ?

I didn't think my DVD recorder was that old :?

Just had a look and it says DVD video on the back of the case and I've just tried it on our cheapo dvd player (not a recorder) and it works fine.

Strange....

I've seen exactly this with a disc from Al and Eddie (when they were still Al & Eddie). The cheap DVD player, no problem. The expensive one, black and white !

ps. Al & Eddie are probably still Al and Eddie, just not Al and Eddie ... errrr, if you get my drift ...

I get your drift!

I've just tried one of Leon Rose's, fine in the cheapo player.....black and white in the expensive one

Hi Jambo

Get your review up - we got back from Barcelona holiday earlier this evening. Marchant and Shelley Cook taking classes all week.

"It's on my DVD" (Marchant) and "Remember - dinosaur hands" (Shelley) became our catchphrases. Mrs KP's highlight of the holiday was quite probably a dance in a nightclub with both Marchant and Bob Long - "cheeky Bob" - (a great guy who teaches in Canterbury) were playing at stealing her from each other in more and more intricate ways. To say she was glowing afterwards is most definitely an understatement.

It was a little frustrating that M wouldn't do a demo of the routines he taught, for the participants to film - because it was on the dvd - but the guy has to earn a living, and he's so nice (and smoooooooooooth) that he was quickly forgiven. I dont go in for videos (well, dvds now) but if Jambo's review is positive, Marchant's is one for which I might well make an exception.

Hi KP,

Hope you had a great holiday, certainly sounds as if Mrs KP did :D (I'm not in the slightest bit jealous ).

I've only had a quick look through the dvd so far but it does look very good, as you'd expect the turnpatterns are silky smooth they and seem to be broken down well from what I've seen but I will write a review when I've watched it all ;).

Can't wait - although I'll probably order it anyway. How many turn patterns are on it? I'm just a little concerned that between the classes at Britfest in Feb and the holiday I might be left with few surprises - but hey, it's Marchant..

Did you get the on1 or the on2 version?

There are 8 turnpatterns on it and I got the On1 version (still think he should have put both on one dvd ;)) .

Can you remember all the moves he's taught? :notworthy: I did one at brit salsafest which he said was on the dvd but for the life of me I can't remember which one it was . Then again, my memory is poo!!

That will be the one where ..... thinks hard ....

... the one where the follower was led into an anticlockwise turn, the leader places his hand over her head and leads her into a travelling turn. This was followed by his pervy move which we went over again and again where as the leader walks round his partner she seductively trails her hand around the back of his head. I think the next unusual move was a draw to step back on the 1.2.3 but - to the follower's surprise :o the leader is standing behind you to run his fingertips along the inside of your arms to take them above your head and lead a touch and go turn. After that the last move was one that gained a round of applause because it was so simple but unusual with a travelling turn, guy keeping pace with you, he turns and takes you straight into a dip.

That seems very long - maybe I'm merging a couple of routines in my memory - after all, I did an advanced and intermediate class in Blackpool and spent a week with him last year in Barcelona too (I doubt those moves from last year are on the dvd though).

Oh - and remembering isn't the same as doing ;)
