Hi,
A couple of months ago I purchased a fantastic CD. I actually asked the sales assistant in the shop what was a good Salsa CD and she pointed to this one. I purchased 1. one her recommendation and 2. because it had very familiar songs on there that had been remixed. After listening to it, I do have to say that Franz Ferdinand sound much much better in Spanish. Well to me anyway.

All Guajira ? Cha /-- sounds nice , and different.

would certainly use it for teaching, but doesnt quite match up to the more " authentic " sounds of, for e.g. , EGC .

I got this after hearing exerpts from it on Chris Moyles' Radio1 breakfast show.
I was actually a little disapponted. There are a few good tracks, some of which I use to teach, but most of it's not danceable with regard to Salsa.

The Coldplay track "Clocks" is ok for beginners warm up and Sting's track (in Spanish) is absolutely beautiful and has pretty much taken my top spot for "Romantica". The U2 track translates to salsa surprisingly well (I'd heard this acouple of times round clubs) but most of the rest sounds like the original songs with some cheesey cubanesque percussion added.

I'd say it's worth a buy coz there is some good stuff on there just not as much of it as I'd hoped.

That's a bit of a tall order  and not really a fair comparison ;) they weren't aiming to produce remixes with a Puerto Rican flavour but with a Cuban flavour.

IMO, It's an ok CD if you like cha cha cha, but there are only a couple of salsa (slow) tracks on there, people do seem to like the U2 track when I've played it though.

It really does not, to my hearing, even have a true cuban flavor ( egc was not, maybe, a fair comp. ) Was weened on Cuban from the 50s, and 60,s .

Sweet, but a little too " pop " latin for my taste . Having said that, yes,

I would buy it .

It's a great CD to introduce salsa (except that it doesn't have that much salsa, but in theory) to your non-salsa friends. Otherwise non-salser@s find my listening to salsa music tedious.

One question regarding one song on the CD: Faithless sounds remarkably much like Dido, is there some kind of a connection?

Rollo is one part of faithless and Dido is his sister. She sometimes sings for faithless.

Hm, why the heck do I remember that in a SalsaForum?

The Los Van Van cover of the Radiohead song is simply beautiful.

Agreed. High and Dry is one of my favourite Radiohead songs after seeing it played acoustically years ago at my school.
