Arrggghhh! The On1 bug creeped back into my psyche today at my on2 class. I don't know what happened to me. I had no problem until today. :? My heart said on2, Peach! Hit the 2! But my feet wanted on1 badly and said to my heart, :nope: "Peach is hitting the 1 no matter what the heart says". I would push for on2 and my feet just wouldn't go. I was pretty funny actually. I went by the office and decided to practice spins and my basic in the bathroom. (nice floor in there :D ) ARRRGGGHHHHH!!! I had no problems! :headwall: I mean, what happened??! I was just in class and couldn't do it. I don't get it at all. So, I tell myself, I will defeat Operation Setback on Tuesday. It's no holds barred now! On1 beware!!!!

Well, it has taken me this long today to write about last night's class. Feeling a little blue and disappointed. :( Not with the instructor. My instructor :rocker: big time! :) But, we spent all night on just footwork. Not by choice but because the ratio was 20:3  About 20 women and 3 men who had no clue about the basic. (Not their fault, it was their first class.) What made it even worse is my supposed partner  hadn't shown since the first day of class. :headwall: Why even start or commit if you're not serious. :? What a waste! Well, anyways, I was struggling to get through the class. (Attitude out of whack totally :( ) It was everything I could to do to just grin and bear it. Ugh! Hopefully, better this weekend although I doubt it. Holiday weekend and I'm sure about 80% of the students has a "thing" to attend this weekend. :? So needless to say, I've had enough of shines for a while. :? At least I have a good instructor now so it could be worse.

Awww Peache, I feel for you! I used to have those blues from taking classes. It got really bad that I quit taking any classes completely for a while.

hehe I hope that the holiday weekend would also make the women in your class not come. Then perhaps you get to dance with your instructor a lot? Perhaps something close to a private? ;)

Regarding your "operation setback", well, what can I say.. I have a huge problem with on2. After dancing on2 for a while, I cannot see the difference between on1 and on2, then go off beat when dancing on1! Then the lead that I'd be dancing would look at me weird

I wanted to learn on2 before I get too comfortable on1 so that I can handle both, but perhaps I really need that deep security at least in one style.. like with language, you gotta have that mother tongue well in place to be able to have a logical mind - then you can learn other languages (if no one heard of this theory, then i guess this may sound weird huh :P )

..Awww Peache, I feel for you! I used to have those blues from taking classes. It got really bad that I quit taking any classes completely for a while. Yeah, that's what I did. I'm back taking classes after a year and half. I had done some Casino and LA Style before. What's different now is the instruction. I'm learning from one of the best so it's not so bad. It's just that, it's the partner work that I need desperately rather than the shines. Just need to recruit more leads. Hmm, maybe a few bribes are in order. [Let's see, how many Disney tickets can I afford this month?  ;) ]

..hehe I hope that the holiday weekend would also make the women in your class not come. Then perhaps you get to dance with your instructor a lot? Perhaps something close to a private? ;) )I should be so lucky!

I also think that it will be just as difficult learning On1 if you started with On2 first. I started with the On1 styles and I still had to start On2 at beginners level. Even though alot of the moves are the same, hitting my turns and/or spins on a different beat throws me off completely. Especially coming out of a spin, I have the hardest time hitting the 6 when coming out it while dancing On2. It's coming along though...... :)

Lolita, the one thing that has been helping me is I only focus on all things On2 now. Meaning, everything I study now whether it's dance video, music etc. is in On2 format. For instance, music wise, even though I like some Sonora Caruseles' music, I won't listen to it because most of it has an On1 "feel". I won't even go dance the predominately On1 style here until I have a better handle On2 with having to think about what beat I'm on. So far, this method is working and I'm doing much better. :D

Yes, that's pretty much how it is/was here in Orlando BUT we are getting some NY instructors here that are teaching On2 so it makes it a little easier. :)

I got it! I got it! It was my right foot. Not stepping on the one beat when I should have been. Even though I'm dancing On2, I still need to hit the one beat with my right foot. That was the problem. My instructor pointed it out. My instructor rules! :rocker: Oh and the shine sequence kick butt today! Yup, the Peach was on fire! Bring in on, Baby!

Now... to do it all again at the next class.

Class was just okay to day. My footwork, (heel toe move and Four square flare) was good. My partner work.....not so good. On1 attack again. :P

Okay, here is the news, good news, better news and the best news....

News: Since mainly my partner work sucks! I'm taking a few privates to help solve a few problems.

Good news: First private was the bomb! Fixed a few problems but not there yet. Got to try them out in regular class today. :)

Better news: Did I say my instructor was excellent? ;) :P Alot of things became clear once he pointed them out. I could feel the mistakes the moment they happened after that and I got plenty of homework! 8)

The best news: I can wait until my next class! :D

This is my biggest setback thus far. Moved to a new place. No Salsa (quality Salsa) instruction within 100 mile radius. :( So, I'm playing around with idea of starting a Salsa community or moving again. I will defeat this minor setback either way. :D

Living in a salsa vacuum sucks :(. Good luck whatever you decide to do.
In the meantime, could salsa travelling be an option for you -- congresos, vacation, or even business trip?

In the meantime, could salsa travelling be an option for you -- congresos, vacation, or even business trip?Yes, but unfortunately it will be later in the year (what's left of it  ) before I will be back in full swing. $$ is the looming factor at the moment, particularly since I'm still doing contract/temp work at the moment. BUT, I have a feeling Santa Claus will either come to my rescue a little early or deliver a huge Salsa Christmas present.  I'm only three hours from Orlando so getting to quality classes once things settle employment wise won't be an issue. The funny thing is for a Salsa addict such is myself, makes it a little rough when it comes to patience. I'm getting there... :)

I am two hours away from orlando. so you would drive that far? I really wanted to take on 2 with Eric. It looks like I will have to drive to Orlando if i really want it bad enough.

I would drive almost anywhere! :D He was the best instructor I had ever had in Orlando and I had been through one too many by the time Eric and G had opened up their studio there.
