View Full Version : Zouk and Regeton
Hi,
I'm dancing Salsa for while, and i'm looking for another challenge. I heard some good things about Zouk and Regeton. Is there anyone who can explain the basics of both dances or give me  some links to sites where they explain these?
Thanx,
Wybe

If you're looking for a challenge, I'll drag your attention to:
Rumba
Yambú
Columbia
Conga
Palo Monte
Santo
Chachachá
Mambo
Changüí
Mozambique
You may find some videos at www.cubanfoodmarket.com or www.cubacollectibles.com.
These rhythms can be very challenging. Even advanced people compete at the dance floor. And whenever you hear a hot Salsa, some of those can be intertwined in it.
Yes i've heared about those dances, but I saw a view demo's of Zouk. It looked very interresting, so I would like to now more about it.
I heared Regeton and Zouk are dances that just are getting more populair.

hi wybe,
i'm not claiming to be an expert on either - but this is what i understand from both of them:
i dance lambada which is a subdance of zouk. many of the songs i dance to are zouk tracks. http://www.zouklover.com/
it is much more flowing, slower and sensual than salsa. helps if the girl has long hair as we have to do neck rolls etc. ...
for more info on lambada etc.: http://www.lambada.co.uk/
many people seem to take up zouk and lambada after having danced salsa...
reggaeton is the blend of hip hop styles and latin music. which is pretty much the way it is danced as well although it is possible to dance salsa etc. to it....
hope that helps a little - anyone else have any ideas? ;)

I heard something about Zouk! But I don't remember what is it!!!
About raggaeton,I can tell you that the only thing that you have to do,if you want dance it,is listen to music and move your body! With this dance the instinct prevails!!!Only that!!! ;)

Mozambique.Yup! Guaranchero, I totally agree.
Zouk has become quite popular the last couple of years it seems. I haven't looked into it much but see that many dancers are intrigued by it. Oh by the way, Hi Wybe! Welcome to Salsa Forums! Happy to have you here! :D

Do you think that will defeat salsa? I don't think so. Salsa has survived many decades and it's gotten better. Most rhtythms surface and hit the top for a while, but they decline. The thing about Salsa is that it showed up first as Son, then it became Guaracha with Pío Leyva after Mambo climbed the top with Pérez Prado and Beny Moré’s innovations, then as Changüí, then Pilón with Pacho Alonso... And every time, people find the ways to revive it. I don’t know. It may be a matter of witchcraft. Salsa is a deity.
