Hi everyone,

As you may or may not know, I'm organising together with the help and participation of Albert Torres, Veuve Cliquot, Terrazas Wine and ARMANI/BAR HK, a Salsa Qualifying Competition for the West Coast Congress on 16th April 2007.

As the days progress, this event is turning out to be a truly BIG event with judges such as Mr. George Watabe, Promoter and Salsa organiser of Japan Salsa Congress and Antimo Russo, Latin Ballroom world champion, who will also be doing a short performance during the event.

The HK television network TVB Pearl, will also be present to interview and film the whole competition for their weekly show Dolce Vita. I have also been speaking to the Spanish Television who may be present as well to film and interview the participants.

With the event gaining such momentum, Armani/Bar, Albert Torres and myself have decided to extend the competition to the Asian region. Hence, I would like to kindly ask your help to let your students or anyone in your respective countries know about this competition and to welcome all of you to participate as a spectator and supporter or even as a contestant.

The Hong Kong Salsa Qualifying Competition forthe West Coast Congresswith special guest, Albert TorresDo you love to salsa?Have you always wanted to compete?Do you want to perform at the 2007 West Coast Salsa Congress?Join International celebrity Salsa and Latin music Promoter and Organiser of the Annual WorldSalsa Championship, Albert Torres and Renowned local Salsa DJ Michelle on Monday 16th April2007 for the “Hong Kong Salsa Qualifying Competition for the West Coast Congress” at theARMANI/BAR HK.Championship criteria1. Free participation, no fee required2. Open to all Salseros and salseras residing in Hong Kong and Asian Region.3. Only 10 couples, maximum, will compete and participation confirmation is on a first come, first bookedbasis.4. Championship open only to couples performance on-1 or on-25. Performance song limited strictly to 2 minutes per couple and all contestants are required to bring theirown 2-minute or less pre-recorded music on a CD format. Please note that small mp3 files may not play on the DJ CD deck.6. 2 CDs must be prepared and given to the DJ on the event night, by 7pm sharp! The DJ will not slowdown or speed up your song. Kindly test the CDs before giving to the DJ to make sure that they play.7. Music must be 80% salsa.8. Contestants must present themselves at the venue by 8pm sharp on Monday, 16thApril 2007.Competition will commence at 9pm sharp and who goes first will be pre-determined via a draw at 8.30pm..Judging criteriaContestants will be judged on the following categories:1. Timing - 40%The judges will be looking closely to the Timing of the Contestants from the moment they are on thedance floor, whether it be the warm up period or the choreographed routine.Be aware that you may look great and do some great steps and even do moves that the crowd willlove, but if your timing is not consistent with your selected division, you will be deducted between10% and 40% of your total score.

2. Overall Presentation - 10%This includes your confidence during performance.3. Appearance (includes costumes) - 10%No jeans allowed as costume points will be deducted. Tasteful and professional costumes arerecommended. We also suggest that ladies wearing skirts or dresses, also wear fish nets or nylons.Gentlemen should wear socks when wearing long trousers. We also suggest that gentlemen not wearjazz shoes during performance as points will be deducted.4. Partnering - 10%You will be judged on how well you and your partner execute your routine and that you are a balancedcouple in the showmanship of your choreography. Leading and following is what this category is allabout.5. Styling - 10%You will be judged on your styling technique and how it blends with the routine and music. Hands,movements, gracefulness and how clean certain moves are performed, will be judged in this category6. Choreography - 10%Your choreography and its interpretation with your routine and music is important in this category.Originality, Creativity, the Level of Difficulty of your choreography And how clean it is presented will bejudged here.7. Audience Reaction - 10%The judges, upon their own discretion, can decide to give an extra 1-10% to their overall scoredepending on whether they feel that the Audience reaction is Sincere.8.
